In the "TV" app I want to remove the "Watch now" feature (for child-proofing the iPad). Alternatively, just blocking the app entirely will do.
I can't find any option for either and it seems I've tried everything.

AFAIK it is not possible to selectively disable the Watch Now section. But you can restrict movies and TV shows to age ratings appropriate for your child, or disable them altogether (in the settings under Screen Time/Content & Privacy/Content Restrictions, don't forget to set a passcode for Screen Time).

I tried your suggestion (going to "Movies" and "TV-programs" once I've entered "Content restrictions) and set both to "Don't allow" but it made no difference with the TV app.
The "Watch now" is still there and still has stuff on the front page which isn't suitable for children. There must be a way to do away with that.

Is there a way I can completely block the TV app then, so the Screen time passcode is the only way to open it?
(I know there's an "Accept apps" section within the screen time "Content and privacy" section, but it only shows a few apps, and TV isn't one of them.

Is it a shared iPad or only used by the child? You can delete the TV app all together.

Have you any apps (such as Hulu or HBO Now) linked to the TV app? That might be the culprit.

To my knowledge there is no way short of deleting the app.

No, nothing linked to it.
I guess it's just Apple wanting to sell TV shows and movies. Strange that it can't be disabled.
