BBC have just pushed an iPlayer update out which supports the TV app.

Good spot thanks for that.

So its looking like the TV app functionality is pretty imminent then.

Such a shame about Netflix's hold out on the most useful functionality of the service.

It would be ideal if we had full participation in the UK from BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5, UKTV, Sky (via Now TV), Amazon Prime and Netflix.

Seems to me that we will be missing Netflix, Channel 4, UKTV, and Sky. As Ive said before its a fantastic idea, and essential in the current streaming climate, but until they all do then its only of limited value.

Lets hope that as its rolled out to all UK iOS devices that demand will grow and the holdouts will soon fully integrate.

plex's 'on deck' feature is really helpful to keep track of what you're watching. The TV app looks like it does something similar but you're right it needs more services onboard.

I have a 4th gen I bought at launch but its gathering dust as I just use my TV's built-in services now (mainly for 4k HDR). If this TV app was a proper 'hub' for catch up I'd consider buying a 4k Apple TV.

Just checked iOS App Store and there is screenshots for ITV Hub app, however I can't find it on my Apple TV

I have the ITV hub app on my Apple TV 4K box in the UK

Jason

Will have to check again, wasn't there when I checked the TV App Store this morning but my store wasn't working properly, couldn't access the purchased tab.

The purchased tab has been broken for a lot of people since the latest update. Hopefully Apple fixes it soon.

The app is definitely on the tvOS store somewhere, I have it installed too.

My Purchased tab started working again last night.

Just search itv and the app should appear.

Finally, i have been waiting for this for a while now.

Although its value is going to be limited until Sky support it which they probably never will!

Just seen that. Still not appearing on any of my devices at the moment.

I even tried to login with my US account to see if it would stay once i signed back in to my UK account which it did not.

Nothing on my iPhone yet
[doublepost=1512742652][/doublepost]I forced it by browsing to this link https://appsto.re/us/vrW-fb.i downloading off the US app store and then changing back to UK app store, all without changing my account. Seems to have remained.

I am trying once again to get rid of Sky, which is scandalously expensive for what I actually get out of it.

So yesterday I took delivery of an AppleTV, having sent my original one back when they first came out a couple (?) of years ago.

It doesn’t look like a whole lot has changed. The BBC app is HD, but not particularly easy to use or well-designed. The NowTV app is HD-ish and is bloody awful to use. The ITV app doesn’t appear to be HD, and the My5 app is buggy and keeps crashing. Netflix is fine (and HD) and the Amazon app looks OK.

I thought the point of AppleTV was to make all this work seamlessly together and make watching TV really easy. Sadly it’s really not.

Oddly, I find it difficult not to have a schedule to follow. I have to actively think to myself, “what do I want to watch” — and I have all those apps to trawl through to find something. Historically for me, Netflix and BBC iPlayer are almost always the winners.

... which is why the concept of the TV app is so good - aggregating content from disparate apps - but as ive said before its only at it full value when everyone comes on board.

having said that you'd have thought that it would be part of apple's approval process for streaming apps that it supports the TV app in iOS.

I dont really care about most the terrestrials but BBC iplayer is handy given original content available on it. I just wish Netflix would play ball.

So as expected, it’s pretty underwhelming for the moment for me. I have no real interest in the terrestrial channels or their content.

Being able to search and launch Netflix show is ok, but it’s a bit pointless. I also thought Amazon was supported?

Seems to me that you can only view things that are also available to buy on iTunes?

Really glad we have it as far as im concerned; theres a limit to what you can aggregate dependant on who will play ball, and i think its a fairly decent stab at the problem. Compare it to freesat or freeplay, isnt it better?
If youre saying you want individual programme access without the dependant apps, that would be awesome but surely unlikely in the current broadcast climate?
As far as the uk is concerned the recent additions (tv app, itv hub, my 5) have almost put the atv where it should have been at launch of gen 4.

TV app is cool. Would be nice to have netflix in there but it's up to Netflix to support it or not, so we'll see. That said, what the hell with the button change, Apple? Now if I know I wanna go back to the home screen, I press the button twice. But do it a second too fast and it brings up multitasking. Same button, different functions depending on where you are in the OS. Horrid choice just to force users to pass through the app.

Almost.

The concept is great and essential.... But some glaring omissions.

NETFLIX!!!! Please support the 'up next' functionality.

I dont care too much about the absence of All4 (or indeed any of the terrestrial channels as I record anything of interest via series links on a PVR).

But Netflix, and Amazon prime are my sources of 'first run' weekly release episodic TV - and id like them BOTH to be able to prompt me when the next episode of whatever i'm watching is available.

For now.. Amazon prime is handy i suppose - Come on Netflix!!! I suspect the more popular the TV app gets, they will realise that people are using it, and its actually only aiding their customers with watching their content and not in some way detrimental to their service.

You can change the function of the home button in settings so it just goes to the home screen if you prefer.
You can also just press and hold the menu button to take you direct to the home screen too.
