Does anyone else of there is a setting that need to be activated for this to work? All of the pre-launch videos made it seem like it was stand alone and would not require any setup. I can get it to work not can I find any setting to turn it on.... any thoughts???

You just need to install the app and launch it, select your ATV and then it just works, at least that's how it went for me.

I never get a prompt either.

If the app has to be open then I don't understand what is new? I've been able to use the app to type on my Apple TV since the remote app was released.

There's no app needed for continuity keyboard. Just have your iPhone and AppleTV on the same AppleID account. Unlock your iPhone and when a keyboard appears on AppleTV, you get a notification on your iPhone. Pull it down and the keyboard appears.

I'm logged into both with the same Apple ID, but I never get a notification to use to the keyboard for the Apple TV.

I signed out of iCloud on both my iPhone and my Apple TV and once I signed back in this feature started working.

I was under the impression you needed the new remote app in order for the keyboard prompt to pop up on iPhone. Either way I have the remote app installed and the keyboard prompt pops up every time with no issues.

Hi, can you provide more insight into this. I'm having the same issue. I've tried signing out of iCloud on both devices but I still never receive a notification prompt for they keyboard on my iPhone.

Can you give me the exact steps and order in which u did then to get this working? Or any other thoughts?

Absolutely... I'm under the impression from the Apple videos that you don't have to have the Apple TV Remote app istalled for this to work, but I do have it installed and paired with the tv. Other than that I signed up for Two-Factor Authentication (previously had Two-Step Authentication setup instead) on my Apple ID (I don't have any reason so believe that's tied to this issue, but I thought I would let you know each step I took). After that I signed out of iCloud on both my phone (first) then the Apple TV. Then signed back into my phone first then Apple TV and it started working. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Solution:

It appears that Bluetooth MUST be turned on in order for continuity to work.

I was under the impression continuity worked over a local network connection but it's purely Bluetooth. You can even turn off wifi on your phone and as long you have Bluetooth on it will continue to work!

Just figured this all out, see my post above.

Thanks!

This seems to be an issue for me as well. What is weird is that it is working on my iPad without an issue but my iPhone doesn't have the Apple TV Remote Keyboard as a listed item for notifications. I have tried to sign out of iCloud and back in and that didn't work.

I confirm it's Bluetooth also. I changed my wifi password and the popup still occurred for ATV 4s that appeared in the remote app. One that wasn't there (new phone) didn't do the popup. Obviously not wifi for this case!

As an update, I have tried to reset all settings on my iPhone to see if that would help and still no luck. Again, the iPad is good and Apple knows I'm signed in to all my devices. As you can see the iPhone doesn't have the correct continuity app in notifications.

I've had the keyboard prompt come up 3 times, which is a success rate of maybe 5% considering the number of times I've entered text on ATV after installing the new tvOS.
The few rimes it was triggered correctly, it came up on all my iOS devices (2 iPhones 2 iPads) in a split second. It's always either all of them or none. So the fault would have to lie with the ATV, hence logging in and out of iCloud on the iOS devices is likely a dead end.

Pretty much everything having to do with tvOS 10 and wireless communication is glitchy. I can no longer wake the ATV up via the Remote app(s), I have to wake them by starting an AirPlay session. Also can't register more than one iOS device as ATV remote. The first is unpaired the instant I pair another.

That's a real bummer that is being so wonky. I was really excited for the keyboard continuity feature. Hopefully an update in the future makes it more stable and addresses the issues.

So it appears that I have resolved this issue, at least for myself. I had to put my iPhone in to DFU and do a complete restore. Once that finished and I got to a point on the Apple TV where keyboard input was needed, sure enough, my iPhone buzzed and the keyboard notification was there.
