iOS 13 beta got a lot of slack for being buggy, but does anyone else think tvOS 13 has been one of the worst beta cycles ever? It's a bit concerning how buggy and messy the latest builds are given a release is expected in a few weeks...

Streams don't load, apps constantly crashing, settings won't even open, sluggish/slow response times across the OS -- the list goes on..

I’ve had a totally different experience. I haven’t had any problems at all with anything I’ve wanted to do. I’m using ATV4K. Maybe I’ve been lucky or use different apps but so far so good. Only problem I’ve had is sometimes ATV won’t power on without unplugging and plugging back in. But I’ve discovered that for some strange reason pushing the menu button turns it on. I hope things get worked out for you.

After the second update was released and installed my ATV4K stabilized and it's been 50/50. But I don't like all the changes and additions that are being made. All too "Applesque" (this is what you are getting and you will like it!!) not "End Useresque". WHICH I trust that it is the bulk of the issues with the Beta's is all these major and intense changes/additions.

But my overall impression that this unit is moving further and further from being "My Device that I can easily get to stuff" to "Theirs", as I stated above, in that I'm being told how things are going to be when what I have had was great . . . I no longer have the "Little Kid on Christmas" feeling. Now it's just that I hope I can get to where I need to go without having to dodge to make "Pushed" programming and having to tunnel too much.

on beta 13 by accident, it upgraded by itself, forgot I had beta on from 12, and it went to 13 on it's own

I've had to reboot more times in the past couple months, then the 2 years before.
most of the time by using the "menu + home" combo on the remote, since the aTV is frozen

from what it sounds like iOS 13 is also a little wonky, I usually update around mid august to early September, but from what I'm reading, I haven't done it yet.

I agree. Pretty bad. My Amazon Prime Video app hasn't worked for months. I have to use the TV's app for Prime. I'm constantly resetting from freezes etc. I think I'm through with betas given there's no way to roll back.

Totally, I’ve been using betas for everything for years and it was one of the worst experiences. Until beta 7 the UI was super laggy and until beta 9 my HomePods were out of sync constantly using YouTube, among other problems.

BETAs are supposed to be buggy. Itʻs actually the whole point. Naw, I used my Apple TV thru the entire beta 13 process. Itʻs basically worked as expected, despite the bugs, which were to be expected, since itʻs a BETA.

wow.

The entire thread is about how this one is compared to other betas in past years
we got the fact that this is beta, and there will be problems.
but normally by beta 3 or 4 they have most of the major issues knocked out. which wasn't the case this year.
When the thread was started, we were 1 to 2 versions away from final (based on typical release schedules in past years). and it was still kinda rough.

did you read the thread?
or did you just read the headline, saw "beta" and something about problems
and you thought 'HAHAHAH I GO PWN THE NOOBS NOW"

wow

"kinda rough"? Rather vague statement in my opinion. My experience has been contrary to yours apparently as other than a glitch of not being able to update from the first beta to the second beta, tvOS 13 beta has been smooth for me. In fact it has been more stable that tvOS 12!

Nice talking to you. Never again.

Stability wise it’s been okay for me. But even with the latest beta the interface is still stuttering, and for the life of me I can’t work out how the hell you can mark a TV programme or film as watched or unwatched except in the Up Next page. I’m sure in previous tvOS releases you could just long press on menu then it will come up with a pop-up and you could choose which option you wanted. Or have I missed something glaringly obvious?

Is build 13.0 (17J5579a) the GM of tvOS 13?

How can i switch to the regular tvOS build on the 19th September to leave the public beta cycle?

I believe that is the GM.

13.0 should down load on the 19th. After you have that installed, go into settings and turn off "get Beta updates".

So running the latest build and things definitely have improved - but it doesn't surprise me to see this released being pushed until September 30.

Have had all kinds of lockups and crashes with the beta on my ATV 4K. Never again will i beta test on this device, simply because there is no way to back out of the beta program. Its not worth the risk imo. Apps that have given me issues include Plex, Reuters, Crave, CBC Gem, Netflix. Can’t be sure who is responsible the app developers or TVOS.
