Hi everyone,

I updated to tvOS 14 and now I can’t watch „The Boys“ anymore. I always get the following error message:
40F67382-319B-4353-88D7-B3FC6C70B86F.jpeg

Anyone else having this problem, too?

I’d like to bring this up again because this turned out to be a reoccurring issue. A restart always fixes it but sometimes this error message comes up. So far I only had it in the Prime video app (also with different series). Anyone has an idea what’s causing this? Is this just a bug?

Try a different tv input or HDMI cable.
Since I only have this since I updated to tvOS 14 I don't think there's an issue there to be honest (also since a restart always fixes this and I only have this issue with the Amazon Prime Video app).

It was a suggestion to eliminate the HDCP error without having to restart each time.

I'm also on tvOS 14.02 and haven't encountered an HDCP error on the streaming apps I use, including Prime.

Ah ok, good idea. I will try some re-connecting the next time I encounter this error.

I'd second the suggestion to try a different HDMI cable. Things can be working just fine, then for reasons unknown you can get issues. The cable is the weakest link and the first place to look.

You could try deleting and re-installing the app, it's possible something got corrupted during the upgrade.
not sure if it will help, but shouldn't hurt.
I concur with deleting the app and reinstalling it... whenever a restart works but the problem returns it's almost always the app... especially if only one app seems to be having issues.

I often have to wiggle the cable in my TV to make this error and the 'black screen of death' during watching go away. Only happens on 4K stuff, not 1080p or SD stuff, and it was going on long before tvOS 14.

HDCP is one of the most annoying things. Been happening for years. It doesn't stop pirates, but annoys the heck out of legitimate users. I wish it were disable-able.

I am having this issue with HULU as well. I have a DENON AVR that supports HDCP. The cable to the TV does, the cable from the Apple TV 4K to the AVR does. It worked before 14

I have recently seen a change in behavior when the Apple TV is doing the HDCP handshake with my TV. It is taking a much longer time. Something may have changed.

The fact that a cable worked before doesn't mean that it will always work. I had an HDMI cable that worked for years and then suddenly it would no longer do the HDCP handshake.

Update: I connected the Apple TV to a second HDMI port directly to the Sony TV with the same cable. It works. The problem appears to be with the AVR and just HULU and just some shows - Amazon 4K works and HULU results in the HDCP message.

I had this trouble once, I fixed it just by switching the cable from one end to the other. Meaning, I took the end of the hdmi cable connected to the screen, and plugged it to the Apple TV, and viceversa.

I suspect it had something to do with physical wear&tear (gravity pulls and deforms the cable)

There have been instances with certain shows having this issue that I have to resort to component instead of HDMI (the HD version of Component, not ye olde standard A/V). Kinda makes one wonder what the point of HDMI is, it's not HD/4K, as component can do this too. What's the point of HDCP even? It's just p***ing most folks off and not doing jack to stop Pirates. Heck, I've heard of legit folks who want to watch TV legally but have to resort to The Pirate Bay just to watch one show due to this crap.

If ATV supported it, you could get far better results using just component for video and digital optical cable for the sound.

My current issue with Prime Video now is searching. It works ONE time, then the next it just shows a blank screen and nothing works until I press menu to get back to the home screen. I can still load the app and see stuff, but for a few hours the search remains dead.

Amazon is really buggy for me, too. When I watch an episode and then it autoplays the next episode it just spins and spins until an error message comes up (a different one than this HDCP error message). I then have to hit the menu button and launch the episode manually.
