Look at MacRumors and other sites, it seems tvOS 14 will be a bit more major than usual:
  • Persistent AirPlay 2 audio output
  • Customizable Watch Now page, hopefully we will be able to not only filter but reorder (I want My Channels at the top)
  • Workouts app for yoga and other indoor fitness activities
  • ScreenTime and Kids profile
What I hope to see but knows I won't get any.

Home Screen:
  • Organized into 3 sections: Play (games and Apple Arcade), Video (TV and other streaming apps), and Apps (Photos and other apps)
Play:
  • Apple Arcade app similar to Apple TV app, which sandboxes all the Apple Arcade games
  • Offload Unused Games
  • Support for more than 2 gaming controllers
  • Battery status for more gaming controllers
Video:
  • Smart Video and Audio Settings for HomeKit TVs, automatically setting optimal video and audio settings
  • Calibrate app for tweaking TV settings, ideally using iPhone as the calibrator (similar to THX tune-up app)
  • Improved 4K Upscaler similar to nVidia Shield
  • Support for AV1 codec (e.g., YouTube in 4K)
Apps:
  • Home app for HomeKit

I think AV1 and upscale are likely on newer hardware. Not sure whether the upscale is something users or devs even will have control over but the hardware already does similar things with lower-res/nitrate video sources. Having a true NPU should only improve that.

Aside from different preferences for organization none of this seems unreasonable.

AV1 is what I'm hoping!

On my wishlist:

--Deeper library integration within the TV app so all of my purchases from Amazon, Vudu, YouTube all show up in one library with the appropriate app launching. If owned on multiple stores, Apple or highest resolution gets priority when playing.
--Turn off autoplay when selecting purchased titles
--Custom resorting of movies, TV and podcasts
--Video playlists that can be edited
--Mixed playlists between movies, tv shows, podcasts and music

  • I'd really like more robust user profiles, in particular for my kids, where available apps, profiles within apps, and content permissions are all changeable.
  • I'd love deeper integration with HomeKit & Shortcuts—I think the AppleTV is actually the device I'd most likely use shortcuts as they exist now.
  • Even if new hardware add built-in mics, I'd love to see AppleTV integrate with Siri (via HomePod or otherwise) more tightly so that I can search/request for content without finding the remote and hitting the mic button.

I'm pretty happy with the software overall—even the remote—I'm really hoping for better hardware. Prosser says it is ready so I'm wondering if they're waiting for WWDC to launch it.

Would love there to be some form of Live EPG on the TV app - at the moment it works great as a catch up service. But would also be nice if (UK Based) BBC 1 & 2 ITV etc would pull their EPG from respective apps into a united apple one.

I think AV1 support is extremely unlikely for now as Apple is not very keen on software decoding and even the upcoming Apple TV (supposedly based on A12X) has no hardware decoder for it.
