Apple’s tvOS 15.4 is now available. I just finished installing it on my ATV 4K 2017. It took a longer than usual time to install, but it looks like it installed okay. Hopefully they didn’t introduce any more bugs.

ETA: BTW, the update used at least three reboots before finishing up. So be patient. Every time I thought it was finished, it started another task. I suggest waiting until the actual Apple TV interface returns to the screen before touching the remote. I read one guy’s post saying the update required him to manually reboot before it worked correctly, but I suspect he jumped the gun after one of the reboots done via the update software thinking it was finished. So far it is working fine for me.

I used my ATV 4K 2017 with tvOS 15.4 for at least 6 hours yesterday and so far no issues.

15.3.x was extremely buggy for me on my current model Apple TV 4K. I've only had 15.4 installed for a day, but so far 15.4 seems to have restored the interface stableness from previous (before 15.3.x) releases.

With 15.3 I saw an uptick in app issues, but I think those were mostly due to the app developers not understanding how to properly program their apps for the newer tvOS. Most apps were okay, but few like Philo got really buggy. I no longer use Philo so I can’t test it on 15.4, but over all apps seem more stable under 15.4 on my ATV 4K 2017.

My ATV 4K 2021 just updated last night and now the video quality doesn’t seem to be as good as before the update. I’ve watched some YouTube videos and Outlander on the STARZ app and they both seem off to me. I’m connected via Ethernet and getting speeds (via Speedtest) of over 200 Mbps. I’ve rebooted a couple of times and no improvement. I hope Apple didn’t screw something up somewhere.

I can 2nd that comment regarding the manual reboot. my 4K Apple TV prompted me to do a manual reboot, but by the time I saw it, and before I could grab the remote, it rebooted itself.

and just to be clear, I did not manually reboot. The Apple TV prompted me to do a manual reboot, but then rebooted itself before I could get to the remote.

I can't remember if mine prompted me or not, but it did reboot three times at various stages.

Apple has a bad habit of not placing enough text on the screen to tell us what is going on during updates. Updating macOS is probably the worst as the screen will go completely black and stay that way for many minutes making me wonder if it crashed, but then it finally reboots and continues. A lot more text prompting would be nice.

After updating to 15.4 Hulu Live TV is somewhat glitchy, although it is always at least a bit glitchy. But it seems worse after the update. Sometimes I have to force quit the app and reopen it to get it to work correctly. Hopefully Hulu will get that sorted out soon.
