TvOs 16.2 huge Sound bug

Hello all,

Noticed today with tvos 16.2 a huge sound bug. Watched youtube and then i wanted to continue my tv show. On netflix, apple tv plus and all other streaming services i got no sound. Restart of the apple tv did not helped. Even force quit the app and start again didnt helped. Only unplugged the apple tv, waited for some minutes and plugges in bring the sound back.

My apple tv is connected to my samsung qn90b and the tv is connected to my soundbar via digital output.

Note: even the tv speaker bring no sound on the streaming services.

Apple have to fix this asap!
 
No because i did not changed anything since i have the apple tv. With tvos 16.1 i had no problems. It must be a software issue
 
No. Yesterday was all fine. Today in the morning also. When i listened to spotify via apple tv for 2 hours, i watched some youtube content and then i wanted to watch a show. Then it happens.

Now after unplugged the atv and plugged back in, it works again.
 
its something with match content on because on youtube the sound was ok. I have match content on and only on streaming services where the atv match range and frame rate the bug appears. So its a software related issue. Im going to see if the bug happen again.
 
I cant reproduce the issue. When it happen again i will contact apple. But for now i hope for a fix. Maybe 16.2 broke my atv? 😂 just wanted to know if someone had the same bug.
 
Match content should not affect sound.

It's possible the aTV went into ATMOS, or some other incompatible sound mode, and with your setup, that would lead to no sound. Replugging the HDMI cable could have caused everything to handshake again, and for it to realize that you can't use ATMOS

What shows and streaming services were you trying to watch?
 
I noticed the same with ONE popular steaming app. It was fine before 16.2 but plays no sound after upgrading to 16.2, affecting only 1 of 3 AppleTVs in my home: the AppleTV HD 1624. The other, newer (4K) AppleTVs are fine with 16.2 on the apps I use. And sound from other streaming apps work fine on the AppleTV HD- just ONE has no sound.

OP: are you perhaps using an AppleTV HD too instead of the newer 4K versions too? This might be an issue with that one model.

I tried apple tv plus, amazon prime and netflix. I have the newest apple tv 4k with 128gb.
 
I had a problem RIGHT AWAY with the soundbar that I control with the Apple Remote. If I lower the volume down one increment it goes right back up one increment. Was SUPER annoying. Changing the volume control mode to Auto from IR and restarting the Apple TV after the update seemed to fix it for me. Hasn't happened again.

Probably...I noticed the usual Philo TV app issues yesterday with the new tvOS 16.2 installed. By "usual" I mean something almost always breaks on some apps every time Apple releases an updated version of tvOS. They had just gotten Philo TV to work well with 16.1, now it is wonky again. By "they" I mean the Philo TV app developers. Apple developers have a nasty habit of changing things that can break existing apps...
 
Happend again. I noticed the following:
Everytime the atv match the content the audiooutput change to whatever. If i change in settings the audioformat to stereo it works again. Before the setting „change format“ was off and atv automatically detect the output.

So its clearly a bug from tvos and hopefully they will fix it soon
 
This sounds very much like the long standing compatibility issue between Apple TV and certain Samsung TVs, such as the Q Series and Frame:

I have the same issue, but only with my Samsung Q60A TV. My other 3 Samsung TVs do not have any audio issues with my Apple TV 2nd gen boxes.
