TvOS 26.4 completely broke streaming experience in almost all streaming apps, like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, MEO Go and others.
Apps freezes image, buffers a lot, than the screen goes black and recover later on. That it repeats this behaviour.
Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, starts streaming on a very low quality video, worst than the 720p.
I know, it’s a beta, but don’t understand how they mess around with something so important like this and that was working just fine!! 😡

Why would you put a beta 1 on a device you can’t revert to a stable build? Especially with a 2 week wait until beta 2.

Sorry to hear of your troubles. Have you tried a factory reset?

This is a great lesson learned. I've been running betas for a while but turned it off after the official 26.2. I've never had this experience but after reading it, and being reminded you can't revert if there's a problem, it's keeping me on official releases only.

I know enthusiasts have a list of things they want from a new box (or via software) to provide, but I'm not asking anything more from mine so I think I'll leave it alone.

I am having the exact same problem. I have a Apple TV 4K 1st gen. I have no idea how to fix this. I've sent Apple some feedback through Feedback Manager, but otherwise I think we might be stuck until the next update launches.

First go to Settings/System/Software Updates and turn off Beta Updates.

Then, go to Settings/System/Reset

From there the choices are Reset, or Reset and Update. Choose Reset and Update.
That will not revert to the stable version. Turning off beta updates just means you will not get any future betas and will get the next stable release. At this point, keeping beta updates on is probably the best option until 26.4 is officially released.

In this short thread, it's already established that there is no reverting, whether it's a beta or stable. Since the update left him with undesirable results, the idea behind a factory reset is to give it a fresh install (of the beta) to see if that doesn't clear things ups.

It couldn't hurt, and it's about the only troubleshooting you can try while waiting for the next one.

Yes. A factory reset should be performed. But I would advise against turning off beta updates until 26.4 is released. The first betas are almost always much more unstable. You would be better off getting the more stable updates later in this beta period.

Dude, I’ve reset the device to factory settings three times. Took 30 minutes each time. Did not help.

Turns out it’s the audio changes. I had to turn off atmos for the time being. 1st gen Apple TV 4K isn’t getting the same changes as the newer devices

I’d change from Developer beta to Public beta, to force a reinstall.
Did a Reset and Reinstall.
Let’s see how it goes, if my problems go away! 🤞

Edit:
Nothing’s changed. I’ve to wait until next beta. All broken 😞

That Continuous Audio Connection makes some of the streaming apps (such as Crunchyroll) or non-atmos supported content sound like muffled garbage. Had to disable it!

Had same issues. Installed released Beta today. Works now!

The updated beta fixed all my Atmos content that would crash, however I still dont have the Continuous Audio Connection option in the settings. Is this new setting not supported on the first gen atv4k? I have an earc tv

It seems like those affected are getting along well with the latest beta. Turning off beta releases now, right now since the OS is acceptalbe, (if one doesn't want to continue with the experiment) may be best.

As discussed the OS won't revert back to any other but the current one. The last one should be enough to scare affected users if ultimately what they want to do is use the box as intended. Most beta testers are doing so with a non-critical use device.

Turning off Beta Updates after this acceptable beta may be the best way forward to the full/stable/official release.

Continous Audio is not available for the first gen Apple TV 4K. But is the sound quality the same or it has improved on tvOS 26.4 (ie louder and fuller)?.

I heard there were different options for AUDIO setup but after installing the public beta I can only see the previous options (AUTO, Dolby Digital, and Stereo). Am I missing something?

Not all Apple TV 4k generations support the new audio setting.

@JohnnyGo

Continuous audio is only available on the second gen Apple TV 4K or later.

As the for the audio format options, they are the same: auto, Dolby Digital 5.1, and stereo.

However, Dolby Atmos (if available) its now called spatial audio instead of inmmersive audio, and its sound better than before on both Airpods and Homepods. This last change its supported by all the Apple TV 4K models (first gen included).

Since the beta, I have problems with my HomeKit secure video. All cameras are working fine, but old videos are not available. I see the timestamp but the home app show a not available symbol. It also seems that the movement notification of the cameras are broken. New videos are not saved by home secure. I have an ATV 4K 2. Generation.

I'm thrilled they added this - literally everything just works and sounds better. We just added the LG Soundsuite with an H7 bar, W7 Sub, and pair of surround M7's and the difference with this feature on and off is night and day. It feels like it also corrected low volume with some sources.

Its a pity that the first gen Apple TV 4K, which is fully functional otherwise, isnt going to get this feature.
