I could've sworn Apple has introduced this "new" feature at least 3 times. Developers aren't adopting Apple's standards and APIs like they used to. Sign in with Apple was supposed to have solved this. There was even a Steve Jobs era version of this Apple TV app single sign in API.

I think the previous iterations, it would only work for Apps where you signed up and created an account with your Apple ID. Individual apps didn't like this since it meant having to support Apple ID for login, so it never caught on. This sounds like it's basically just recognizing you're already signed in on other device so it signs you in with the same credentials. Maybe it will be more successful.

That is good news. On the other hand, I don’t even remember when I actually had to sign in into any of the apps I’m using on the ApoleTV
This week I spent 10 minutes logging on to Hulu on my Apple TV. Not sure why it logged out, but it just would not make it through the login process. Of course, my phone could log on no problem. So, while this doesn’t happen too often, it’s a great fix for the 4 or 5 times a year I have to logon. Nothing is worse than trying to get your tv working while sports are ticking away.

As this feature depends on App developers implementing it I wouldn’t expect this feature to work to well
Hopefully I’m wrong

Does this trickle down to the profile level? For example, each profile on the Apple TV could login apps (like YouTube) to their respective account or is this supposed to be more of a device level feature?
This is what I really want from the AppleTV, proper user space separation. If I login to Disney+ on my Mac, it remembers my user profile and goes straight to it. If I then log out of the Mac and one of the kids logs in and goes to Disney+, it goes directly to their profile. On AppleTV if we do the same thing they play what they want from the home screen and it plays from my Disney+ profile. It’s infuriating.

My cable provider offers support for the TV provider feature in iOS and tvOS.

Besides being a very strange confusing feature, it also doesn’t work. I had to log in multiple times on the most annoying occasions.

Hopefully this new attempt is more robust.

Could have used this just now. I signed up for free DAZN with Sign In with Apple but that wasn’t compatible with the app on AppleTV. Had to make new account.

I guess Disney has already implemented this because if I sign-in on the phone app it logs me in on the Apple TV app, which is convenient as we only subscribe for 30 days to catch up on content.

I'm sure it won't be supported by Netflix just like the global "what's next" feature.. It is one of the reasons Netflix has sunk to a subscribe for a month or two out of the year type service for me.

It happens occasionally to me too, depending on the app. I think it has to do with the app design, and whether or not they enable the app to log back in after an update.
I think it's more likely a cap on concurrent logins... so OP/family/kids/etc probably signed into some threshold of devices and/or locations which triggered and LIFO algo to kick him off. It's their subtle way of deterring sharing.

Ah yes the apple of nowadays: “We have something cool for you, but… it’s gonna take a while before you get it”.

Stop announcing stuff that isn’t ready year. FFS!
It's going to be available in the upcoming versions of the OS (26), and developers have to know about in order to implement into their apps (that's how developer conferences work). If it's not implemented in a timely manner, it will not be Apples fault (it will be the app developers).
