That's pretty wild.

Honestly, if you're still using one of these you really should upgrade.

I found that model to be slow and "meh" even when it was pretty new.
so I just upgraded a month ago to the 4K third GEN from the HD 2015 and tbh the 2015 was still a champ love finally having 4K content but there really is not that many differences from an Apple TV released 10 years ago to today. Just being honest.

Outside of enthusiasts, I doubt Apple sells many of these anymore considering most TVs do everything most people would want built in (even Apple’s own services). Pretty well everyone I know just uses the apps built into the TV.

Obviously Apple saw this coming, otherwise they wouldn’t have opened up their services (especially AirPlay) directly to TV manufactures.
There is zero chance my TV is ever going to see the Internet.

Another thing I like is that it does a pretty decent content aggregation job as a hub for my services other than Netflix.

I think it simply comes down to the fact that tvOS is much simpler that any of the other, and the requirements have not changed that much.
The only features they’ve added in 10 years not available on the HD 2015 is 4K support, better processor/chip, better audio support, Facetime app, better remote and Snoopy 😂 so yes your statement checks out!

Sony(or any brand) with Google TV .. big YES!! Samsung? HELL NO!!!! LOL Apple TV is a requirement they should do a partnership package deal where it comes in the box with Samsungs 🤣 didn’t want to believe it but after having the S90D for the past month Tizsen OS is that ass ass bad - I completely ignore it even their settings app is annoying as hell to navigate and **** ups half the time but the OLED is oh so good

It's crazy that Apple still supports the Apple TV HD (2015), while at the same time they dropped support for the Apple Watch SE (2020) last year.
People dont expect to change their tv box for at least the life of their tv. So we are looking around ten years minimum and that particular model was sold until 2022. Its got some life left in it yet.

Bought two Apple TV HD (2015) refurbished from the Apple Store in November 2017 at a great price. To think the ol' A8 processor is still supported and rolling along through 2026 is fantastic! The A8 isn't blazing fast, and updates do take quite a while, but I do not have any major complaints about it at all.

I did purchase an Apple TV 4K (2022) and I love it. The A15 processor inside is an absolute beast! Updates are installed in no time.

I watch Netflix and Apple TV+ in bed on a hand-me down 40" 720p TV which is fine because I can read the subtitles.

The Apple TV HD works fine for my use case.

And health has me trapped to bed more often than not

The 2015 Apple TV is better supported at this point than the 2015 MacBook Pro.

Other than a design change, expecting to see only very minor changes. And if so, it should definitely support all the models that are supporting version 18.

That’s great. I still have a HD Apple TV that I bought in 2015 in my spare/guest room. Nice to see it’s still getting updates.

I'm still daily driving a 3rd gen apple TV that released in 2012. It's certainly not for the weak, only one major video streaming app still works with it (on-device, non-airplay) and its Prime Video. Although airplay from an iPhone/iPad sometimes doesn't even work on some apps such as Hulu or Paramount+, it just errors out. I will certainly be ordering a new apple TV the day the new one drops. Although it sucks to hear that if I had just waited one more year to buy my Apple TV, I would still be in supported territory with an app store and all the features TvOS brings

I agree but the Apple Watch’s OS hasn’t changed much either. What’s new in watchOS 11 that the SE (2020) can’t support?
Compared to tvOS, the changes are more significant. Of course only Apple can tell what was the deciding factor for dropping support, maybe the S5 was getting to slow, or it or any of the other components was lacking or causing the new features to not run optimally, or some of the components are not used in newer versions and Apple don't wanted to spend resources on upgrading drivers. But if you don't use any of the new features, then i don't see any reason to worry, as watchOS 10 should be just fine.

Looks like the rumor was just that. Apple TV HD and Apple TV 4K 1st gen not getting the 26 update.
My bad it is getting it but sans liquid glass karaoke and the rest so not sure what the point is
