Just to clarify, the previous generations Apple TV will NOT be getting tvOS right?
so no App Store, no new UI.

Doesn't look like it, looking at the Developer Site there is no download for the older devices, just the new one :(

I've just downloaded the Beta thinking I could install it on mine

Surprised Apple Music won't be apple on Apple TV 3. But as long as I can access my movies, I'll only buy one of the new apple tv for my main tv area (i rent, don't own a house unfortunately) and move ATV3 to my bedroom.

I doubt it. I think I'm going to order a refurb ATV3 direct from Apple just to let them know what I think of the new ATV.

You go girl!

On the other hand, what? thicker and no 4K and no optical audio? WHAT?

I downloaded the beta but their install instructions say "tvOS beta supports the new Apple TV only. Earlier Apple TV models are not supported."
So confirmed I guess, they might get a new 'skin' but not tvOS.

Upset, I always though the Apple TV had more power than just to stream 1080p video. It just lacks storage I guess..

It added 802.11ac. Did you notice how tall the AirportExtreme got when it got 802.11ac for antenna space.
Thats all the size enlargement is.

Who needs 802.11ac to stream 1080p?? 4K live streams maybe, but we've been streaming fine with 802.11n.

Well it is upsetting we won't get the update, so that's no surprise. Though I'm wondering if it could potentially add access for downloadable channels from other providers. Most likely not; they'll just continue to add channels as they approve them.

Thankfully, I pretty much use my Apple TV at this point for AirPlay and YouTube so this model will serve just fine.

The only thing I wanted on a new Apple TV was a plex app..... but I'm not going to buy a new one just to get that when plex works perfectly well with airplay.

I think the new atv might be a bit of a flop

Plex should be able to release an app if they wish... now that appstore is an option.

A native Plex app is the main reason I want the new ATV, although I'm not in a rush.

No app store makes sense, as ATV3 has no hard drive.

However, not providing the new Apple Music service on the ATV3 would be unduly harsh. I pay £10.99/month for the service and my ATV3 is 18 months old (it could easily be a few days old).

I think a fresh interface and Apple Music is a very reasonable demand for ATV3.

but the Appstore isn't coming to the ATV3 according to that comparison graph

the new one doesn't have a HDD either, 32GB & 64GB storage are definitely flash storage

doesn't the ATV3 have 8GB of flash storage? with a 200MB app limit for the ATV app store I don't see why the ATV3 couldn't handle it

because then no-one would buy the new apple tv ;)

I bet someone will hack it.
