Hi! I updated to tvOS13 and for some reason my Apple TV 4K doesn’t wake from sleep when I press the buttons on my remote as I used to be able to. The only way to wake it seems to be to run a shortcut that wakes it.

Anyone seen this before?

I’ve been running the beta for a long time and have the same problem. However, if I push the menu butto it will power on. I’ve been hoping each update would fix it but it never has. Try hitting the menu button.

What were they thinking.....

Now I have to modify my Logitech Harmony activity as well.. while it is possible, because Logitech is not planning on supporting Hub based remotes in their upcoming 64-bits Harmony app.

Why can they not make this sort of stuff a choice/configurable in Settings?

The limitations they place on how you can setup/use an Apple TV do not make it more appealing.

I've been having the same problem. Came here looking for help figuring my ATV was toast. I must've pressed every button on my Harmony and ATV remote except the home button. I've been turning the box on by unplugging/replugging for the last two days, LOL. This might've been worth putting on the update/features screen when you first power on the box after the update.

I had the same problem trying to power on one of my ATV's in a spare room. Just went full potato and pressed them all and it came on finally.

Wow, that’s HUGE. What does the new app work with then? That’s crazy. Source?

I don't want to derail this thread, but can you expand on this or give me a link?

Then this explains why my Harmony wouldn't turn on the AppleTV since updating. I'll have to reprogram my remote as well.

@PilotC150 I think it's safe to disregard that person's comment about not supporting the Hub.

Any app has to speak to something and the only currently-selling somethings they have are the Hub and a couple of niche items like their pro line (not even on their website) and whatever that hub is for their Harmony Express (also not on their website - odd!).

For anyone this helps with a Harmony remote. I just played with it for like 30 minutes to figure out how to get it working right again...

harmony app -> select your hub -> edit activity -> edit start sequence -> add a step -> device:Apple TV -> command:Home-> save settings

This puts the remote in Apple TV mode and once it does that the hub will automatically send the command to press the home button. So you won't need to do anything manually once this is setup.

I don't have the hub but I went into the settings on the harmony remote for the apple TV and changed the power on function so that it used the home key instead of menu.

Also, has anyone noticed it takes a lot longer for the Apple TV to come on? The screen is blank for a few seconds now before it finally comes on. That didn't used to be the case with the previous OS.

No way to downgrade to iOS 12 and now I have to fiddle with the ATV remote everytime.
Will use my FTV more often...

By fiddle, do you mean having to hit the Home button, or is it a different issue? I can get used to hitting the Home button, but worried you might mean something else. Haven't upgraded, yet.

I meant using the ATV remote at all :)
Before tvOS 12 the Samsung TV remote have done the job really well (like it does right now for FireTV :) )

Ah, gotcha. Thx. The Samsung TV remote isn't programmable? So you can't set a button to be the ATV home button?

Yes, you can. And, dnjmarlboro probably already has. I had set the red button to be the home button. It now reliably turns the Apple TV on. It used to be that when the Samsung TV was switched to the HDMI port on which the ATV resided, the ATV would come on automatically. That no longer works. But, the red button does it.
