So, with rumors of a TWC TV app coming to Apple TV soon and Apple negotiating a deal to let users skip commercials, does anyone else think we are heading towards a service where you can watch live TV and schedule "recordings" which are essentially just season passes of shows through the existing iTunes system? That way, TWC subscribers would get access to commercial free iTunes "recordings" in lieu of a DVR recording, for a small fee to cover "skipping" commercials. This would be really convenient since they can be viewed on any device via iCloud.

Just a thought. Hope I'm right.

HBOGO does not require a DVR because the content is "all" on demand and without commercials. This is the ultimate DVR (much better).

If HULU+ did not have commercials then you would not need a DVR for all of those shows as well.

I believe at some point we would not need a DVR because everything will be on demand for the entire current season and previous seasons of popular shows.

Apple is moving this direction but you have to pay for it.

Yes, I love HBO GO, too - but it doesn't have live TV.

Not a chance.

Please elaborate, if you can. I'm legitimately interested in why you think this couldn't happen.

I fully understand we need live TV. However, the reason I use the DVR is to record all of my tv shows that I want to watch later without commercials. I.E. A 60 minute show takes 40 minutes. But, it they were available on demand and without commercials I would no longer need a DVR for 99.9% of what I use a DVR for. Remember you can pause on demand content for the bathroom break. Hulu requires you to wait 1 day and it still has commercials so for me I still need a DVR with Hulu. If this new pay for tv without commercials required you wait 1 hour until the show airs with commercials to be available on demand to the pay subscribers then that would be great. You could still watch live with commercials if you want.
