Has anyone tried FakeTimeWarner with the new iPhone App? I just tried it and it won't authorize...seems like the cydia tweak needs an update

Update: Let me be more specific... it wont authorize when on 3G (Im not expecting to watch TV per say, but would like to set DVR recordings from, anywhere like i can on my iPad TWC app)

I've used it on my 4S and it authorizes fine on 3G for managing the DVR.

I am also able to use a VPN to watch the channels over 3G. I did have an issue first time I tried external WiFi with VPN where the app detected it but I just switched from WiFi to 3G, loaded it up successfully, and switched back to WiFi and it worked.

I only have a WiFi enabled iPad but FTW lets it bypass the detection on it in 4.3.3. I am updating to 5.0.1 right now.

def let me know how it works with 5.0.1 on your iphone 4S while on 3G! (also, could you PM me how you got the VPN working with it?) thanks :)

Here's my setup guide for getting the app working over 3G or external WiFi with a VPN. Hope it can help some people out there.

I setup a VPN on my desktop at home and when connected, it fools the app into thinking I am on the home network.

On Windows
1. In Windows 7, you open "Network and Sharing Center"
2. On the left, select "Change Adapter Settings"
3. Press Alt to get the File option and choose "New Incoming Connection"
4. Select your username and hit Next
5. Check "Through the Internet" and select Next
6. Make sure "Internet Protocol Version 4" is checked and hit Allow Access.

Setup port forwarding for port 1723 to your PC. Also check that PPTP passthrough is enabled in the router. Use http://canyouseeme.org to check if your port is open. Once it is, go to the iPhone/iPad

On iPhone/iPad
1. Go to Settings>General>Network>VPN>Add VPN Configuration
2. Select PPTP
3. Description (Name), Server (IP Address), Account (PC Username) Password (PC Password)
4. Save and check if it connects.

When connected, you'll see a box that says VPN either beside the 3G or WiFi symbol or beside the battery percentage depending on what app you're in.

TWC App
1. Enable VPN and establish a connection first (VPN symbol in Status Bar)
2. Start the Time Warner Cable app
3. Enjoy 3G and external WiFi programming!

If on external WiFi, TWC app may detect VPN, disconnect WiFi then try the app again with VPN through 3G. Once it authorizes, close the app and reconnect with VPN through WiFi and it should work.

Thanks for this VPN guide it works for 3G on win7, didn't get to test on wifi.

I have an old xp pc I also tried it on. The device connects to the VPN, it looks ok. But then when test connection by browser it is unable to connect. Xp looks dead.

Can some one give a Mac guide for VPN setup ?

Is it possible to do this twc VPN stuff without a pc? I was reading these newer routers have VPN service features baked in, any recommendation?

I don't like the idea of leaving a pc on all the time listening for VPN connections just to do some occasional channel surfing on my 4S. If my router could handle everything that would be a no brainier. But I have an old router so can't do it. But if you show me some that works... I'd go get it and support the economy.

After installing the latest incarnation of the hack offered in this thread, onto my iPad...

I followed the tutorial in the first post of this thread, on how to get the VPN connected. Very straightforward and easy. I'm using EasyVPN on my home office iMac, which is still running OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard.

The only thing I set differently was the "search domains." Instead of "optimum.net" I put "socal.rr.com" -- and I got that by going to one of my home Macs, checking to see what was auto-entered for my broadband connection, under DNS settings (under System Preferences -> Advanced.) Yours will likely be different.

Now I can use the SBSettings button for VPN to connect (and disconnect.) Which it lets me launch the TWCableTV on my jailbroken iPad, even when I am away from home, even when I am on 3G, and be able to watch live streaming TV.

Yes, some routers have VPN connections built into their firmware.

And on some routers, you can install third party firmware on it, that includes OpenVPN. Two such firmwares are called DD-WRT, or Tomato.

Some links to get you started:

http://www.howtogeek.com/51772/how-to-setup-a-vpn-server-using-a-dd-wrt-router/

I know the Linksys WRT54G router, version 4 or earlier, is an eminently hackable router.

Yeah man thanks for those links but I'm no hacker. I was looking more to buy something cuz I gotta replace my old junkie router anyway. I figured I could kill 2 birds with one stone.

Anyone here know of any solid/reputable wireless (a/b/g/n) routers with built in VPN? (aside from custom firmware installed routers)

Also, does anyone have any experience running VPN with the Netgear WNR3500L?

Bright Hosue App - VPN

Bright House Issue

System = Ipad 2 32G WiFI (jailbreak)
Version = 5.0.1
App = BrightHouse App 1.0.1
Issue= Authorization Faild: please disable VPN
VPN connection: DD-WRT Vpn

Issue Information

I have my Ipad connected to my home network via VPN though my DD-wrt modified router and it connects and is stable. If i am at home using my network where i have a bright house service without having the need to connect via VPN i can get pass the Jailbreak message. However when i launch the bright house app once I am outsite my home network using VPN connect Via WIFI i get the message above (Authorization Faild: please disable VPN).

Things i have tried to do
1) Installed Faketimewarner from Cydia version 1.0
2) Installed MILK242's Deb file located here http://cl.ly/2x0B2C2f2w0C0A0Z2s2e

Change the line <string>com.timewarnercable.simulcast</string>
to <string>com.bhn.simulcast</string>

On both 1 and 2 however still getting Authorization Faild: please disable VPN

There is a new update in AppStore. Anyone try if it is jailbreak compatible?

Yep. I am using the "freetwc" jailbreak tweak linked in this thread, on my iPad 1 -- and just updated the TWC TV app to the latest version. Still works fine.

Tomorrow I get an iPad 3 and won't be jailbroken for at least a little while though...

The VPN dectection issue is fixed with an app from cydia repo called 3G restrictor 5. Install that app and all VPN detection will be gone.

However you still need to add the xCON app from the cydia repo also for jailbreak dectection.

In Summary you need xCON and 3G restrictor 5 from the cydia repo which will in return bypass apple and brighthouse Restrictions when watching show outside your bright house network

Note: you most setup have VPN network setup to your home for you iPad to connect

For what it's worth, the current version of the TWCable TV app (2.6.6208) works outside your home network when you connect via VPN first, over 3G/4G/LTE. No jailbreak required and no extra tweaks need to be installed. (Of course, over 3G/4G/LTE you'll need to be concerned about your carrier's data caps, if you are not on an unlimited plan.)

It does NOT work when you connect via WiFi; you get the error about VPNs not being allowed. And if you're jailbroken you'll be prevented from using the app too. Unless you install one of the aforementioned tweaks (like MILK242's Deb file, offered up in this thread) to trick the app and work around those errors...

Thanks for this. Now that I am jailbroken again, now on an iPad 3, I'm jumping back into the fray.

As I mentioned above, I didn't need to bypass the VPN restriction when I connected via LTE/3G, only when I connected via external WiFi. So that would explain why 3G Unrestrictor works... by taking advantage of that loophole (which actually feels like a bug.) I'm thinking that TWC might fix that bug in a future version, in which case I'll go back to using the "freetwc" tweak shared here. Hopefully that'll still be working...

Right now though, TWCableTV app + xCon + 3G Unrestrictor + VPN lets me stream live TV channels from my subscribed cable package to my jailbroken iPad 3, anywhere I have internet access. Sweet!

Version "2.6.3" of TWCable TV's app is out today. Anyone care to lead the charge, test it on a jailbroken device... with Xcon and 3G Unrestrictor, and report back?

2.6.4 seems to be working fine. Seems to login faster as well. The app would make a decent remote alternative if it could properly multitask. Wish their was a fix for that.

How to also defeat video-out restriction

Time Warner also doesn't want you to use video out, so if you are jailbroken here's a way around that. I suspect they want the customer to rent another box for $8/month, so they block the video-out ability from the app.

Get DisplayOut Cydia tweak so video can be mirrored on a TV. Disable it initially.

Cheap non-Apple video cables can be used, however you also need to get
Resupported4+ in Cydia. Otherwise the Apple-branded pricey video cables I am sure will work.

Install Backgrounder from Cydia and give it an action to enable it in the settings.

Start up the Time Warner app with no cable attached to iPad/iPhone..
Authenticate your TWC account.
Once your video is displaying\available, use whatever you configured to 'background' with backgrounder (long hold on Home button is what I use) to minimize the Time Warner app. It will remain running with full resources in the background. Now go into the Settings app and enable DisplayOut. Plug in your video cable. Open the Time Warner app and the video is now displayed on your TV or whatever display device the other end of the cable is plugged into.

Is it possible to disable the 'HDMI' checking in the
freetwc deb file instead of having to do all the above?

An even better tweak is out that makes this work (no cable required!) Not just for this app, but others like it (HBO GO, DirecTV, TiVo, etc.)

Check out UnrestrictPremium. I'm wirelessly AirPlay Mirroring live video from the TWCableTV app to my AppleTV, right now!

I wonder if Microsoft SmartGlass app when released will work with that. SmartGlass is essentially going to make the Xbox360 into an AirPlay device. I currently use my Xbox as an extender for my Win7 PC running MCE with a few TV tuners. Would love to push the content from TWC app to my Xbox. Thanks for the UnrestrictPremium. Just bought it!
