I tried to use Twitter, but failed to see how it could be useful.
Must be an age thing. Darn kids and their toys.

But Really what is the point of this program?

If you use Facebook, you could already know the uses of Twitter. For me
Twitter is a daily "realtime" news tool better than Facebook. All my geek friends are on Twitter.

Tweetie for Mac is my favorite App, hope they add Lists and updates to
current "2010" Twitter features.

1) Getting breaking news, traffic alerts, etc.

Which is done just as easily through a zillion other ways, such as facebook or rss feeds

2) Seeing latest trends.

That is a meaningless sentence.

3) Send public (called @ replies and mentions) message to any Twitter users.

Which is done just as easily through a zillion other ways, such as facebook

4) Send private messages (called direct message) to your contacts.

Which is done just as easily through a zillion other ways, such as facebook or email

5) And getting pointless updates from celebrities, friends, whoever.

Which is done just as easily through a zillion other ways, such a facebook or entertainment news sites

6) And writing pointless message.

Which is done just as easily through a zillion other ways, such a facebook or blogspot

Because Facebook is clumsy, heavy and takes for-ever to load on any browser... and you have to sway in a million ways to get to where you want. On twitter is simple, fast and easy, and you can get only what you want, on the fly and FAST.

For example, I get to follow certain people that talk about certain things, and If I want to interject to a story or a post, I can send them a direct message and boom! im talking directly to them.

Can you get localized (not by zipcode localized) information about traffic in your neighborhood on Facebook? No.

And there is nothing wrong in making Facebook your numero uno... it's just that facebook has its uses and twitter is more PERSONAL... and has its other uses.

Boy. You are dense. Go buy Facebook Stock if you use it so much.

Because of course you would know that. Considering they keep updating OS X, and have seeded out 10.6.4 to devs, and in fact are constantly updating apps like Aperture, Final Cut, etc, I'd say they are in fact working on it.
Speak to some of the desktop app developers who are at WWDC this year. They feel left out and forgotten. It is all iOS, iOS, iOS.

I know plenty of desktop devs who are not going this year as they would be wasting their money. :(

LOL Facebook is a joke. What a meaningless post.

I love how right now, when I post from Tweetie for Mac, it comes up as "Twitter for iPhone"

Hoping this will be fixed.

I have a cute usage story for twitter just from today.. This morning I was playing eyepet on ps3 with my two year old daughter. I tweeted about how I thought it was great for toddlers.

A few hrs later I'm retweeted by one of the 3d artists who worked on the game thanking me and saying it made him happy..

That sort of global, searchable mindpool doesn't exist without twitter - I'd never heard if the guy before. It's a very powerful tool if you know how to use it.

My iOS twitter client of choice is twittelator with tweetie a close second.

Second to that, I'm very disappointed in how long it's taking for Tweetie to be updated. Ridiculous for a pay app.

Uh, it's called sarcasm.

FaceBook is only a joke to people that have no REAL friends :)

The twitter crowd just likes to shout out trivial crap
like : "I'm bored what should I do Guys?"

All the while nobody is really listing because they are to busy with there own "Tweets"
Like : "heading to the gym"

On FaceBook there is more media exchange.

I think only the people with regular cell phones (not smartphones) use twitter.

And News reporters out of stories trying to fill time:rolleyes:

Am I the only one surprised that this is front page news?
I feel like Adobe Lightroom 3 is a more important piece of software but it's announcement is on page 2.

But it's made by Adobe (yuk) and Apple makes a much better pro photo workflow management app, Aperture.

Oh no, not another thing for crazy tribal arguments over.

Fb and twitter both have their strengths. Not. The. Same. A lot of people use both for different things.

Er no. I couldn't care less about defending Twitter, but defending Facebook is just....LOL.

(I may be jumping to wild conclusions here, but do you think maybe he likes Facebook?)

I choose this comment to reply to because it's so provocative, but really it's not personal, it's aimed at any of the people who have piled into here just to have a dig at Twitter and the people who use it. (An example of trolling if I ever heard one)

So you enjoy Facebook and don't see the point of Twitter. Good for you. I have a Facebook account myself, rarely use it for various reasons, but don't see it as a reason to go butting into threads about it, ranting about it and demanding that people who use it should justify their choice and then putting them down at every point.

Presumably you have a Mac. What do you think of PC users who barge into Mac threads/forums demanding to know why, and then they answer every point with "Which is done just as easily through a zillion other ways, such as a PC"? You (again I include various others in this thread too who may or may not be trolling) are doing the same sort of thing here.

(Either that or you have an iPhone or iPod, in which case "such as a Nokia N97" or "such as a Creative Zen" could be possible substitutions)

FWIW, I use Twitter for:
* The demographic who choose to use it i.e. fellow geeks - both the random and interesting, and the famous (Stephen Fry etc)
* The fact that users are limited to expressing themselves in 140 characters, preventing long rambling yawners like this post I'm writing now, and encouraging Quality over Quantity
* The peaceful simplicity of it. Nobody poking me, biting me, bombarding me with quizzes, offering me virtual animals and vegetables etc. Not that I have anything against people who enjoy all that stuff.
* The fact that, to cut a long story short (less itemised data being taken, general attitude of the company that runs it) they're not quite so cynically in-your-face about violating basic privacy and harvesting every scrap of information they can about its users. Which is my main gripe with Facebook. But again, not everyone is concerned about this and to each his own. That's the way grown-ups handle these differences in what we enjoy.

Also to answer the stereotyping from the various anti-Twitter trolls ITT, it's only for people who say pointless things like "I'm going to the loo" or "having tea" if those are the people you choose to follow. Sure there are plenty of those people, but for every 10 there's a gem worth 20 of them and worth following.

facebook twitter myspace, Just stop it already.

Stop with all these quirky twitter BULLS**T. It's getting rather f***ing annoying as hell.

I find it interesting to see how people feel about Facebook and Twitter, since I work on "stuff" for both.

Facebook is kinda amazing in my book and if they play their cards right, they can be the new Google. They are the king social networking, which is the big thing these days and it won't go away. FB is actually what Yahoo, Google, Apple and the other big guys should be. But they were acting slow an didn't "understand" younger internet users.

I was a skeptic about Twitter for a long time, I don't need to know when a buddy is eating a burrito. But it's a great way to get new info and news and now that Twitter has lists, you can sort the people you follow in a much better organized way.

Tweetie for Mac is fine, but if you are serious about Twitter, you need Nambu http://www.nambu.com/.
It's by far the best Twitter app I have tried on the Mac and blows Tweetie away.

Also, follow me on Twitter: http://twitter.com/VoodooDahl :D
