I would agree but deaf people are allowed to drive...

I used to think the same thing. But in retrospect, that's not really equivalent.
  1. Deaf people are accustomed to paying more attention with the rest of their senses. People who can hear are not.
  2. If you have headphones on while driving, you have the added distraction of listening to music/podcast/conversation, which deaf people wouldn't have.

Avantree makes an AptX LL transmitter with optical in. Just search for "avantree optical" on Amazon. I have no personal experience with these particular models, but my old avantree BT transmitter works well, and the average rating for these are quite good.

They also sell a transmitter/headphone set with optical in and low latency. Again, I have no experience with it, but the reviews are good.

Ah, these are new! I see TROND also has them for less, and I swear by my TROND transmitter and receivers.

The only reason I would still opt for the DAC is so I could just buy the one transmitter to pop off and take with me while traveling.

That doesn't make the device useless. You just need the same two prong adapter people have been using for years to plug in their own headphones.

Heck, the complimentary headphones they gave me on my Quantas flight came with a removable adapter -- which I removed and kept for just such a situation.

Yeah, some flights have that adapter, but the majority of flights I've been on in the last year don't have an adapter. They just come with in-flight headphones that fit the port.

I would agree but deaf people learn to drive while being deaf at all times, hearing people aren't. (Plus unlike deaf people, hearing people are not as experienced at dealing with the world around them without having sound.)

So if I lose my hearing I have to learn how to drive again?

Glad I saw this thread: I bought the cheaper item referenced hear, and it works great with my AirPods. I've been wanting to listen wirelessly from my work laptop for a while (training classes, conference stuff, etc)
