Twelve South today launched a new accessory for the 13-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro, as well as the MacBook Air, called the "SuitCase."

SuitCase is a premium hard case for the MacBook that's made of a water-resistant twill fabric and includes a layer of hard plastic to ensure protection if dropped.

The accessory includes a suspension system that holds the MacBook in the case, and allows you to work on the notebook without removing it from the SuitCase.

Other features include a retractable leather handle, dual weather-resistant zippers, and an interior pouch for cables and other accessories.

The SuitCase is priced at $69.99 for the 13-inch MacBook Pro and MacBook Air, and $79.99 for the 16-inch MacBook Pro.

...they don't mention the weight, which is the most important feature when I choose a new suitcase. In fact, I chose my current one just because it was the lightest in the shop.

It's call suitcase ...

Did the marketing team think it was fun? Or did they completely miss the reason why there was a "suitcase" type of luggage created? Are they going to rebrand the briefcase a suitcase too?

It has the side effect of keeping your Mac warm while you work, the higher the cpu temp the better it performs, despite it awful looks, this is an all-round winner.

It’s so so bad for the ventilation! Apple actually suggests not to put MacBooks on soft materials. It will quickly overheat

That really won't help the thermals leaving it in the case as the picture suggests.

It's obvious that if you do heavy computing on your device then you should take it out. But for people that never do anything that kicks in the fans this is a nice feature.

"an interior pouch for cables and other accessories" doesn't sound big enough for the power adapter.
Correct. Completely intentional. We wanted it big enough for charging and sync cables - even a few dongles or hubs - but stopped short of power supplies. The thinking was with 10-12hr MB batteries, you don't need a PS for quick meetings down the street or to go back and forth to work. And when you add a pocket big enough for a PS (esp. UK!) the product becomes a different thing entirely. We see SuitCase as in between a snap-on shell and a big backpack to transport your MB and a few things you need - and nothing you don't. Great question - thank you!

SuitCase was designed to accommodate a work-in style OR just transporting your MB like a sleeve. We have never seen any issues related to thermal output, but if you ever had concerns - or were doing particularly processor-intensive work - you can always simply remove your MB from SuitCase. We think having both options is nice as sometimes you just want to pop open your MacBook and work - then zip back up and go. In these scenarios - this work-in style is very nice.

I named it and, yes I thought it was fun :) I also was inspired by high-end luggage and a more modern clean MacBook case you could take to a professional setting and look a little more... professional - like wearing a suit. To your point, there were some on the team concerned with the confusion it might create in some retail channels - but I became attached to the name and convinced our team to go with it.

Looks like a "Thule Gauntlet" with a handle. Even a similar embossed effect on the inside.
Yes - it does. We love that case but thought we could combine the ruggedness of that - with a cleaner, more modern design. The quilted debossed pattern and Twill covering is what we came up with. The handle - is because I always wanted an in-between case you can carry - not just hold - if that makes sense.

The 13-inch SuitCase is 498 grams / 17.5oz... basically 1lbs. It's actually quite light - much lighter than you would initially think. We'll be adding these details to the page today. Thanks for the reminder not to forget the weight.

LOL horrible design, nice way to overheat your brand new MBP!

At home I have a docking station to plug into. At my most recent job, I also had a docking station to plug into. In a situation like there seems like no need to bother about a power supply. Your milage may vary.

If you're really worried about weight, just don't put the computer in it. ;)

I think it's a nice looking case and defiantly worth considering. But, I see lots of cases that are nice looking so I have to be careful or I'll end up having a collection.

Even by Twelve South's recent design language (most of which is built around inexplicably covering Apple products with faux finishes to look like an old book?), this is uglier than most. This looks like it came from Brookstone in 1998. I don't know of a "professional" that would decide that a quilted soft case, wrapped around a hard case, is a more professional appearance than simply carrying your Macbook into a meeting. I have a very simple black plastic hard case on my consulting Macbook that is simple and unobtrusive and in my opinion a lot more "professional" (as in, able to adapt to a wide variety of business settings and cultures) than this. I absolutely love my SurfacePad from Twelve South for its simplicity and elegance but the design ethos of the company that produced that and the ethos of the company that produces something like this are just, completely different. I'm assuming that's driven by customer demand, and I get diversifying your product line but I just find the hard left this company has taken to be so, so puzzling.
