On my iPhone, the Twitter app has been changed to 'X' some time ago, but strangely, on my Mac, the app hasn't changed and is still called Twitter using the same icon as before.

Not that I approve of that Musk twit doing what he does, but still, it's puzzling that the app doesn't get the same treatment on both platforms...

I would suggest that X (as Twitter before it) is significantly more of a mobile app than a computer app and it is just a result of prioritizing of resources. With all the changes Musk is trying to make with the app and platform functionality it does not surprise me.

Is using the Twitter Mac App better than visiting the website on a computer?

Not sure there is a different user experience (yet). Just I think most users post "in the moment" and don't wait to get to their computer.

Regarding the future user experience from what has been announced/rumored I expect X will move to some form of metaverse similar to FB, but with different features (banking??) which if occurs I would think the computer would give a better experience.

why they don't just make the iPad version M1/M2 Mac compatible is beyond me - would require little to no effort...
