Hmm, I see... I wrote to them the other day, too. I hope they will consider it. It would be really convenient if they included "retweets", "favorited tweets" as well as new follows in the Connect Tab, just like the official app does.

And they should simply include the number of retweets in the "View Details" section.

Yep, I agree. I think if they get enough requests they will consider it. That's usually how it goes.

Back in the day it was icebird for me, sadly the project have not been moving forward :(

Only thing that did it for me was tweetbot but honestly what i love is the UI, other clients work just as good :)

Btw, is it just me or does Tweetbot not have an option to view people's pics in their accounts? (I'm not talking about that one profile pic, but other pics on their accounts that you can easily browse through on the official Twitter app, for example.)

Another downside.

Hm, yeah... well, as it turns out Tweetbot is quite far from perfect as lots of people claim it to be.

To summarize my main gripes about it:

- no easy way of seeing your tweets that others retweeted/favorited all in one place (i.e. Connect Tab)
- no option of showing Mentions and new followers in the Connect Tab either
- no easy way of seeing the number of retweets of a tweet (you have to tap on the tweet, then tap on the gear icon and finally tap on "View Retweets - quite cumbersome)
- no info about how many people favorited a tweet (?!)
- cannot view people's pics in their accounts
- gray background in Timeline (I WANT WHITE, damnit!)

Honestly, I can't really give it much more than 3 out of 5. Maybe 3.5 at BEST. As great as it is with all the customization and other bells and whistles, it frankly lacks quite a lot of *basic* features. Rather disappointing.

I've already sent them a couple of e-mails with suggestions, but it'd definitely be great if you guys wrote to them about it, too. The more people nag about it, the better... You can follow this link and scroll down to the blue "Suggestion Box" button: http://tapbots.com/support/tweetbot/

Yes, it's indeed overrated. However, there are quite a few advantages it has over the official Twitter app:

- thumbnail previews of pics in Timeline (that's a big advantage imo, so that you know right away what the pic is about and don't waste time tapping on it if you feel it's not worth it)

- "Load more tweets": if you are reading from below upwards, it will load the tweets *above* the tweet where you pressed the button, without shifting your location (official Twitter app will work this way only when you go from up downwards, and not vice versa)

- displays the number of unread tweets

- support for "Read Later", i.e. you can easily save a link to one of your favorite apps such as Pocket, Instapaper etc

- Mobilizer: you can choose between Google, Instapaper and Readability to display content, so you usually don't need to zoom in on the screen

- links in the Timeline are of light blue color, @names are dark blue and hashtags are light gray color: easier to distinguish altogether

P.S.: I e-mailed Tweetbot support the other day with the list of things that bother me (from my previous post), and they said one of the reasons you don't see some of the features (such as user's images in their account) is due to the Twitter API restrictions...

+ you can sync your timelines between multiple iDevices - read your timeline on your iPad and then later on, when you open your timeline on your iPhone, it automatically jumps to the first unread tweet. That's the best function on Tweetbot IMO.

So you can't really fault Tweetbot for something that Twitter actually controls.

There are a lot of medicore Twitter apps in the App Store. Don't get me wrong, Tweetbot isn't perfect, but it's one of the best of the bunch that is available. Granted, the UI, customization, and push notifications have a lot to do with it. But their support team is pretty responsive when issues do arise.

Tweebie is another Twitter app which seems to be getting a lot of hype. However, it's still in the beta stages from what I have heard.

The biggest problem I have with twitter at the moment is I want to have push notifications of all tweets on my timeline. I'd like to have a banner come up on my phone screen each time someone I'm following tweets.

The official twitter app allows this but it must be turned on on a per-person-followed basis. I'm not going through the list of everyone i follow and turning this setting on for each one. And there's no easy way to tell who you've missed turning it on for.

Tweetbot only pushes notifications for mentions and retweets and a couple other minor things, which i find odd.

Can anyone help?

Almost all of your complaints are due to Twitter's restrictions of third-party clients. Sucks, but them's the breaks.

Sure, I'd love to see the Connect tab in Tweetbot, but it isn't the end of the world that it isn't there.

Again, is there any twitter app or web-app that will send notifications to my iphone for every new tweet on my timeline? I'd like them to appear as banners on my iphone.

The official twitter app allows this, but it has to be individually activated for every single person I follow. Is there a way to turn them on all at once?

Cheers RedTomato

Not that I know of. But that sounds like a serious battery killer.

Shame:( it seems such an obvious thing to have. There are times when I just need to keep an eye on tweets in real time (while doing other things) & the hit to battery is fine.

Unless you're not following very many people, I don't see how that is possible. having THAT MANY tweets being pushed would kill any battery in any phone in no time.

But maybe i'm wrong, maybe there is an app like that somewhere... I only use tweetbot. Haven't really explored the app world looking for other apps.

try Trickle, for both iphone and ipad. i literally have it on now. it shows one tweet at a time with the ability to retweet and favorite from within the app. it's as stripped down of a twitter app as possible. great to just turn on, prop your ipad up, and let it sit while at work.

i like having it on while watching sports. it's not instantaneous, as it will pull tweets from your timeline in a set interval (ranges from 1 minute to an hour) and then scroll them through one at a time at whatever speed you set. so you may see a tweet about a ********* call a minute after it happened, but it's still cool imo.

Twitter has sms notifications that you can set up on the website. Free Push. I've been using this for a few years, so no matter what Twitter client I use, I don't have to worry about starting and stopping the app's notifications.

Here's another reason why I quit using Tweetbot. The dev is getting to be pretty snotty, snooty, high on himself, whatever you want to call it. Just like the dev of Reeder, a douchebag.

I think he was joking, as tweetbot did a similar thing when they rolled out notifications. If you click the link in the tweet you will see where they announced push notifications and only rolled out to 1000 people to start as well.

I was really interested in how the twitter clients stacked up against each other. So I created a feature table and tested each app.

My spreadsheet shows that Echofon comes out top in my usage. Followed by Tweetbot, my own twitter client Piyo, and Osfoora.

Well, here's another serious issue I have with Tweetbot: it often happens that there are replies MISSING inside tweets. For example, someone posts a tweet and when I tap on the tweet for its details it shows only 1 or 2 replies. But when I check the official Twitter app, there are in fact a bunch of OTHER replies, which I would never notice if I didn't check the official app. Sometimes there are even NO replies shown in Tweetbot, but when you check the official app there are a few.

I understand this probably happens due to the Twitter API restrictions and that other 3rd party apps are no better in this regard, but still... It's really messed up. It really makes the user torn-up between wanting to use the official Twitter for such matters and then the 3rd party apps for the vast palette of additional features they offer. At the end of the day it's utterly frustrating because the official Twitter app still sucks in terms of customization & utility compared to Tweetbot, so I just couldn't switch to the official app.

I like Tweetbot on my iOS devices. Syncing works 95% of the time.

I also have Tweetbot on my iMac, but here syncing does not work perfect. Many times is does not sync with my iOS devices or does not scroll to the last read tweet. For me syncing on the Mac only works 50% of the time. I filed two bug reports about this but the situation only improved little by the last update. It seems that syncing via either iCloud or Tweetmarker is difficult for any app.

Tweetbot hardly has customizing options. It also does not support long tweets.

As an alternative, I can recommend Tweetlogix. Very functional and you can also customize it in almost every thinkable way. AFAIK, it does not have notifications, but you can use Boxcar for that.
