Twitter, definitely. have a FB account of old HS and neighborhood friends but rarely log in these days.

Facebook. It keeps me in touch with friends and family, and recently its been great for coordinating my group work at uni. Twitter on the other hand has yet to do anything useful. How is it different from a FB status update?

  • 140 character limit. No long statuses to read. Both a strength and a weakness.
  • People can follow you without you having to follow them back, and vice versa.
  • Twitter is public by default. That means it's not for private communication amongst friends like FB or Path, but it also opens up new possibilities.
  • Searches for hashtags (ex: #keyword) allow you to see tweets from all Twitter users about a particular topic

I use Twitter to monitor topics that interest me, such as #SHSU (tweets about my university), #Houston (tweets about my city), and several tech-related hashtags. I've also had conversations with tech journalists and software developers, which Twitter made possible (forced 140 character brevity + public by default + non-mutual following)

Like we've been saying in this thread, Twitter and FB are for different uses.

I deactivated my facebook. I found no use for it.

Until recently I didn't see much of a point in Twitter, but I now like being able to keep up-to-date on news and quick updates on the go easily.

I've stopped using Facebook for the past couple of months because I don't like the idea of basically living my life for everyone to see through a website.
I still check it every now and then for messages.

I didn't think much of twitter when I first started using it, but it's actually a really powerful marketing tool, as well as a way to share opinions and information with friends and the world.

Also, I hate the new timeline feature on Facebook, that was another big reason for me leaving.
