Maybe they hired the Skype designers. :p

:D That's the honest truth. Skype has some of the most poorly designed apps around.

I use a Skype number as sort of our junk/backup number when I don't want to give out my mobile number. It goes to voicemail and I'm alerted when someone leaves a message. Skype's iOS app is so bad that I dread even checking the messages.

FB and Twitter are slowly realizing they need to make money to stay afloat. Therefore they are crippling the iOS apps so you'll go to the website where there are ads. (at least in the case of FB - Twitter seems to have a "recommended" thing going with ads in feeds)

does the official twitter app stay in sync like Echofone? like when i check twitter on my iPhone, will it know what ive already read on my iPad?

Had you used the app before? The tweets only took up a fourth of the screen.

Yes I had used it before. The difference is that before, you could click on a tweet and it would open it up in a pane on the right - showing the picture in a tweet, or opening a link in a tweet etc. You could still scroll through your other tweets in the meantime. It was a far more efficient use of space. Now, those side areas are simply never used.

Oh the horror! The panes were a pain getting rid of. Also you couldn't see interactions of when people retweeted or favorited your tweets. What does it matter if they use less space if it accomplishes exactly what you need it to do? I don't like bloat myself, that's what Android is for.

Eh. It's not as bad as I was fearing. But it really is just an oversized version of the iPhone app with iPad-like animations instead. I liked that I could view a link or information in the side while still scrolling. I could have it load on the side and keep reading. Why get rid of that? If anything, MORE apps should have adopted that. I'm looking at you, FaceBook app whose horrible Chat sidebar I can't get rid of infuriates me to no end. (I don't use FaceBook Chat. Why should I be forced to look at a useless list of greyed out friends?) But now I've derailed myself.

I don't mind the official Twitter app, but I've been waiting for them to put back the ability to filter. In the old versions (I think pre-4.0) if you scrolled to the top of the timeline/search results/etc there was a search field you could use to search/filter the current view. For some inexplicable reason they removed it.

Wont be upgrading, cheers for the heads up. The new fb app really sucked for me ( icant even see my profile) so now im looking for reviews before upgrading willy nilly. Also im still burned from the ios 4 update for the 3g. Whats with updates that make a product worse anyway???

WOW @ that update! HORRIBLE @ all that dead space

I'm buying Tweetbot for 99 CENTS! What in the hell is Twitter doing?!?!

Call me crazy but I kinda like the new design. It does have wasted space but three section format always bugged me especially when one overlapped the other. Works for my needs I suppose :)

It looks and feels like a stretched out iPhone app. For a moment, I thought I was using the dreadful Android app.

On the other hand, the new app is extremely fast.

Aside from a horrendous interface, trying to use multiple accounts is extra clunky.

I thought that as well but if you tap and hold on 'Me' it gives you a list of your accounts and lets you switch easily, (it looks like when you switch users in OS X).

Generally though I agree, I really liked the old version and am a little disappointed in this.

I've downloaded Tweetbot to give that a go, (69p in the UK!).

I'll be honest, I'm not crazy about the update, but I don't think it's *that* horrible... [ducking from the flames]

I'm gonna give TweetBot a look though, seeing as how Twitter wants to shut out 3rd party devs I might as well snag the best app I can find, even at $.99 to give me access to a free service.

Be sure to write Twitter or tweet @twitter with your comments, go directly to the source to complain! They'll have to listen if they get enough backlash.

Is it hard to type? You're not on reddit... or should we start talking #hashtags and find a like button too?

And yes, ofcourse you are right! You don't need to use anything, so let's not complain about anything anymore! Will you tell the mods?

This app is awful. Slower to switch between accounts, which is a pain for me (running a personal, business and a couple of "character" accounts from my games).
I like that the single column is so wide for when you're browsing a timeline, but if you click on another tweet it should display two columns.

...
Also, both the iPad and iPhone versions of Twitter have gained a new 'Header' image for user profiles that is similar to Facebook's 'Cover Photo' and will be displayed above tweets on iPad, mobile apps, and Twitter.com...

So it basically comes down to "if Facebook does it must be a good idea so let's do it too"...

I'm not a fan of "header" pictures (and screwed UI). I just notice that Google+ did it too (as you see, I'm not using G+ that much...) I only hope Ping doesn't jump on that bandwagon too... Wait, is Ping still alive? ;)
