"Hate" is all around us - the sooner people learn to deal with it the better off they become. I quote "hate" because I think a lot of the use of that word is nonsense designed to rile people up.

You can chose not to use Twitter if it bothers you so much.
Oh it doesn't bother me a bit. I was raised by four sadistic older sisters that emotionally abused the hell out of me so empty words from a stranger don't phase me in the slightest. There are a precious few that have been tormented over Twitter, however, and as such it is certainly something the service needs to address if anything because of all the negative press the issue is earning them.
That their answer is to change the avatar icon from an egg to two grey blobs is almost as funny as it is just plain sad. Whomever is in charge of such things there has absolutely no clue whatsoever, and watching the whole thing go down in flames is a free source of amusement.

They just need a few more tweaks to the default avatar to persuade people to change to their own avatar:

Well I think an egg is more gender neutral than a humanoid silhouette. What would have been more generic, gender neutral and boring would be to remove the silhouette and just have a gray square.

So instead of preventing hate they change the default profile picture because it has a bad rep with hate, because of course now trolls won't hate, because their profile picture isn't an egg...

I liked that new accounts were called Eggs. It was funny and very Twitter. Besides this really does nothing for the harrassement from new and fake accounts. Twitter should put restrictions on new accounts before they can post something that will be picked up by hashtag searches or perhaps a time limit before blue check accounts see the new accounts. If the harassers can't think they are being seen by their targets, they won't be as likely to harass.

I don't think they can afford to limit any accounts, their user base isn't growing and they still don't make any money. We'll see how much longer they can last.
