Twitter is currently working on a "Voice Transformer" – a voice manipulation feature for Spaces, its live audio conversations service that rolled out to more users in May.

"Voice Transformer" will provide several effects for users to change the sound of their voice as they engage in Spaces conversations, which could inject some fun into chats or perhaps be used by people who dislike the sound of their own voice.

First spotted by app researcher Jane Manchun Wong, the feature manipulates voices by adjusting pitch or adding echo. MacRumors contributor Steve Moser subsequently revealed the full list of voice effects that will be available in Spaces. They include Bee, Cartoon, Helium, Incognito, Karaoke, Microphone, Phone, Spatial, Stadium, and Stage.

It's unclear when Voice Transformer will be available to use by the general public who engage in Spaces conversations, but code relating to the feature is already included in the latest version of Twitter for mobile, so it shouldn't be too far away.

The greatest thing to come out of this feature is the ability to disguise your voice for privacy concerns on Twitter, which is a cesspool of human opinion and an overall data security nightmare.

Not that I have an opinion on the subject. :D

I've said it before, but it is so true. Twitter is the answer to the question many of us asked ourselves when young which is:
"What would it be like to read people's minds?".

I think we can all agree it is not what we as kids, would have hoped it'd be like.

“People who don’t like their voices”. As a therapist, things like this leave me dismayed. Don’t want to accept things you don’t like? Pretend you’re someone else! Woohoo!

Yep, and it also helps criminals keep from being prosecuted. So that is another win for Twitter. Facebook can't be far behind.

Can we all just sound like Darth Vader?

Not on Twitter, walked away from FB in March (this was a really good decision).

As a therapist, how do you feel about makeup, spanx, lifts in shoes, false eyelashes, etc?
Something more appropriate to compare it to would be filters, I think. Considering the tendency of people to over compare themselves the more they’re online using certain social media platforms (there’s research out there - not just my opinion), I would say we spend too much time trying to avoid reality. I would consider make up or lifts as an embellishment. Anything can get out of hand.
Certainly there’s room for nuance and some things feel like a step too far to me. The amount of anxiety about online presence and how people are perceived/compare to others is through the roof compared to even a handful of years ago. Sometimes folks don’t realize it, other times, clients directly tell me it’s a problem.

It’s ok if you disagree.
