Twitter today announced it is testing full-sized image previews in the timeline on iOS and Android, allowing users to see a full image in its original size, rather than merely a cropped 16:9 version.

On iOS and Android, Twitter currently displays a cropped version of any non-16:9 image on the timeline. The newly announced change, currently being tested, will instead show an image in its full size right inline on the Twitter timeline. With the change, you'll be able to see the full image without having to tap it directly, making the browsing experience easier.

Alongside the timeline change, Twitter also announced it is testing the ability for users to upload 4K images on iOS and Android. Users will see a new "High-quality image upload" option on the "Data usage" settings page. Twitter hasn't specified a timeframe for when these changes will roll out, but it is testing them with iOS and Android users and they should be available to everyone sometime later this year.

Lost interest in Twitter once they mentioned subscriptions and in-app purchases.

Full Size ?

iPhones capture Full-Res 12 MPx photos in the image sensor's native format, which is 3:4 OR 4:3, depending-upon the device's orientation.

That's 50% greater Res than 4K !

I love tweetbot's "small thumbnails" option. This isn't instagram people.

My biggest Twitter feature request would be for them to improve the iMessage preview cards. There's no way to tell if the tweet you link is a photo or a video since it just sends a screencap of the video in the preview. It does the same thing for gifs and often fails to show all photos when multiple are attached to the tweet.

We constantly have to prefix twitter links in iMessage group chats with "vid" or "gif" so that people know to click on it.

Twitter is a horrible invention. Like filter cigarettes or Thalidomide.

Facebook is on par, IMHO. I decided to stop even looking at FB about 3 weeks ago. These have been a pretty good couple of weeks.

Only person who noticed was my partner. They used to see when I was on FB messenger all the time to sort of cyber stalk me.

Seems like this should be a per-tweet setting. Some images have important stuff that would be lost by cropping off the top and bottom. Most don't.

The app is pure Crap. I haven't used Twitter that much but this current design I'm seeing in the pictures looks horrid. With that bar of people at the top it looks like you're seeing an iPhone 5 running this app, very little content displayed at once.

Personally I wouldn't want media previews anyway because I'm sure there's a lot of crap you might bump into. Also, I don't know what the stars are in the top right but I feel like the tweet button should be there instead.

This interests me as I am growing tired of Instagram policies, and their ads are far more annoying (to me) than the inline tweets Twitter posts. Guess I better dust off the account a bit and use it more.

Yep violating the terms of service.. and dealing with consequences. Sounds like censorship to me.
I have a First Amendment attorney, nicest woman and she recently joined masses of others who were banned at ****ter.

People are being blanketed with false allegations of "platform manipulation blah blah using multiple accounts" when they have only one.

Hey, the Orwellian totalitarianism is a sign of the times.

It's actually rather easy to check if a person is running multiple accounts. But hey, it's like any online platform. If you violate the terms of service they can boot you. Remember 'no shirt, no shoes, no service'? Same concept. But it's free to use so either deal with it or stop using it. No one is forcing anyone to use Twitter.

I wish Twitter would fix video previews in their app, sometimes the app decides to pause the music I’m listening to just because a few pixels of some video have scrolled onto the bottom of the screen. Killing the app sometimes fixes it and sometimes doesn’t.

Sure it's easy to check, therefore it's easy to lie and then censor as many accounts as you wish due to lack of political conformity.

But don't try and claim you are not a publisher then. Anyway, Jack and his band of totalitarian thought control crew are spiraling down.

It's pretty fun watching the stock flushing down the drain.

Jeez man.. go a bit further down the cry me a river path why don't you. It's a ****ing business. Deal with it.

Don't like their rules? Don't use the service. I think I've heard that before.. yeah "don't like it? then leave"
