Twitter was awful, so maybe it’s a good idea it changes and it might actually become an interesting place to be.
Twitter was awful, but still the only social media that found its way through the years while Facebook, Myspace and so many others saw a massive drop in daily active users because of 'new' socials like Instagram or Tik Tok.

I have to admit that although I've to agree that Twitter isn't really the healthiest social media, it was very effective on what it was meant to do: deliver information quickly without huge posts and huge texts. Now that all seems to change.

I'm just waiting for a decent replacement of Twitter to pop up at this point, and then I'll delete my account. I don't think I'm hard right or left, but the insane right wing rants have been flooding my timeline since that buffoon took over. It's basically become Truth Social 2.0 at this point.
And yet my timeline continues to be flooded by left wing nuts wanting Children under 18 to be allowed to make a decision to chop of their body parts.

I don’t have a horse in this race but I don’t see much genius on Twitter; it’s not the character count.

Of note, people can already write long essays in form of a multi-post.
My phrase still stands. There actually ARE some extremely intelligent folks on Twitter. And they are all able to say what they need to say in the current 280 characters very well. Longer form, put a hyperlink to 4 billion characters.

Absolutely your phrase still stands, but it’s the intelligence part that makes the difference, not the character amount.

Agreed - it's much faster now that there are no ads to show. I have only seen 1 ad in the last week on either mobile or browser. Additionally, on mobile, they limited the number of new tweets in a feed to about 28 at a time. Down from what seemed like 100+ at a time. So, everything does appear faster when about 15% of what was is being served up.
Indeed. The lack of advertisers is wonderful. But not if you want to make twitter profitable.

Yeah basically turn twitter into reddit
Now very little makes twitter unique besides some verified accounts
And they don’t even have the team nor skills to do proper verified accounts. They already killed that feature and made it valueless and worse I just laugh when I see a blue or other colour ticket and think; sucker 😂😂

A month since Musk takeover, a month for people's accounts to get deleted. There is just more capacity in the system now 🥴

Twitter will eventually increase its character limit from the current 280 to 4,000, the company's new CEO, Elon Musk, has confirmed on Twitter.

twitter-elon-musk.png

In reply to a question whether rumored plans for Twitter to increase the character limit to 4,000 were true, Musk responded "Yes," without providing additional information. Twitter originally had a character limit of 140 before it was increased to 280 in 2017.

The exact details of the increase in character limit are not yet known, but previous reports and tweets by Musk suggested Twitter may make it easier for users to break up long chains of texts into multiple tweets part of a thread. It seems that an increase to 4,000 characters would eliminate that idea, and users could simply post longer blocks of text in single posts.

Twitter announced over the weekend that it plans to relaunch its Twitter Blue subscription service on Monday, which will offer users a verified blue checkmark and other perks such as the ability to edit tweets and upload higher-resolution 1080p videos. Twitter Blue will relaunch with a higher price of $11/month for iPhone users after Musk criticized Apple's 30% commission taken from in-app purchases.

The thing that makes Twitter good is that it is limited. I don't want to read somebody's essay. Just a couple quick thoughts or sentences. Damn, Elon is just trying as hard as he can to ruin the app.

Then you need to follow different people. Your timeline is a reflection of you ;)

Rather sounds like the real crybabies now have 4000 characters left to post in their respective echo chambers.
Wouldn't you agree Twitter and all social media are nothing but echo chambers? Social media has done nothing but created hyper-polarization. Nobody wants to hear the other side and there is now complete demonization of the opposite side, to the point where I'm fairly sure violence would be endorsed because once you paint one side as an existential threat to society, violence to stop said threat is accepted. That's where we're at now, in large part thanks to social and main stream media outlets. Words such as "nazi, fascists, bigot, homophobic, transphobic," and all the phobias are rather meaningless now since apparently 50% of everyone fits in to those categories. I simply cannot fathom the energy put in to all the vitriol about Elon Musk or any social media figure head. Don't like it, don't use it. I stopped using social media on a daily basis and my life simply got better. I dislike Mark Zuckerberg's actions but I don't spend hours venting about him and personally attacking him every thread about Facebook, Meta, or Zuckerberg.

Well, that’s because people forgot that they have a superpower: the ability to ignore.

As Dante said in his Inferno, “non ragioniam di lor, ma guarda e passa” (roughly, “Don’t mind them but walk on by!”).

Many these days put out a small one and link to their site.

Oh, agreed. All echo chambers. Facebook, instathing, twitter, all tools to dumb the lazy user down, mine their data and create fake outrage and fake controversies. You don’t go there to widen your horizons but to celebrate confirmation of what you already assumed right.

Elon decided today to post insinuating that Yoel Roth is a groomer based on a dissertation excerpt. At what point do people have enough of this behavior, including Apple?

Elon Musk should be nominated for "Man of the Year" for bringing back democracy to the internet. I'm certainly a new fan.

Now if only Apple, Facebook, Microsoft and Google would follow along...rather than trying to copy China's philosophy of control.
