I didn't even know that the official Twitter app didn't keep the unread point across multiple devices. This is a mandatory feature.

Won’t be too much longer, then Twitter will be as dead as other social networks.
Twitter was never able to make the native app as pleasant to use as the third-party devs.
I would like to echo former comments; Twitter only got this far BECAUSE of third-parties. The very first apps for Twitter were only third-party ones.
Time to get on Gab!

Yeah I’m aware I’m just saying Twitter should consider it as an alternative. Like take a specific percentage from the developers in lieu of just getting rid of 3rd-party clients. That’s a win-win for both I’d think: we still get our clients and Twitter gets the ad revenue.

Incredible how Twitter is treating its third party developers. The right thing they should to do right now is make themselves totally irrelevant: continue killing all third party apps, make sure their users start looking for alternative social platforms and then close up shop. Why? So the tweets of "a certain someone" will disappear into obscurity.

I’d be ok with these changes if Twitter didn’t ruin their own app by sabotaging the main feed. I cannot stand some stupid algo determining what I see and when. On top of that they insert all kinds of useless crap like ‘in case you missed it’, ‘people you may know’, and the ads get worse and worse. FB, Instagram, and just about every other feed based social service just cannot resist the urge to mess with the feed over time and ruin it. I have used Tweetbot for years due to this, and only use the official app for some of the features not available to 3rd party clients. Twitter could easily have different sections for those features while leaving the main feed BS free and chronological.

While you can’t remove the “in case you missed it”, “people you may know”, or the ads, you can continue to have a chronological timeline in the 1st party twitter app. It’s in settings and content preferences. While it’s not perfect, it generally keeps the posts in order, besides occasionally double posting some tweets from the timeline into the “in case you missed it” section.

3rd party apps don't display ads. With about 1/3 of users using 3rd party apps, thats a LOT of lost revenue.

I doubt it’s even 3%. But regardless, I think Twitter is underestimating the influence those power users have.

Twitter is the only social media platform that allows 3rd party apps. Maybe they've realized it was a bad move and are trying to push people back to their own platform in order to gain more control. Who knows. At this point I'll just roll with it. No amount of complaining about it on MacRumors is going change things.

I'm going to continue using Tweetbot until it is no longer functional. The official Twitter app for iOS is an absolute train wreck. I only use it for notifications and that's all I will continue to use it for until Tweetbot is no more (which I hope never happens).

No, it isn’t just alt-right. Many choose to leave the other platforms when they say “hey we support giving everyone a voice.” But then they get buried or warned for breaking community rules.
