Twitter today announced that it is expanding its "night mode" option to its iOS app, allowing Twitter users to enable a darker mode suitable for reading tweets at night. Twitter first brought night mode to Android devices in July and after a beta testing period, the company is now ready to offer the option in both of its mobile apps.

Night mode can be enabled by tapping on the gear icon and choosing the "Turn on night mode" option. It is disabled in the same way, by tapping the gear icon and selecting "Turn off night mode."

Night mode should be a welcome addition for those iOS users who have been hoping Apple will implement its own Night Mode option, as it makes the Twitter interface much darker and more comfortable to look at in low light conditions.

Rolling out today - we're bringing night mode to iOS! 🌙 https://t.co/XxNZHQdth9 pic.twitter.com/WLwKi4H0Oe - Twitter (@twitter) August 22, 2016
Twitter's new night mode feature is rolling out to Twitter users starting today. The Twitter app can be downloaded from the App Store for free. [Direct Link]

I wonder how many people use the Twitter iOS app? I've been using Tweetbot for years and it does everything I need it to do -- including night mode. Granted, it wasn't free.

Once again proving that Tweetbot is the best app for Twitter, having had dark mode for ages, in addition to not being a giant piece of crap. Weather Underground has also had dark mode for a long time, along with Pocket, Droplr, Reddit, Fantastical, and a few others. I really hope that Dark Mode is still coming so that I can have a consistent experience across iOS.

I used to love Tweetbot. But I grew tired of the number of tweets that just never show up in my TL. All you have to do is compare your Tweetbot TL to your TL in the official Twitter app.

The official app is cumbersome and cluttered and pisses me off, but it doesn't piss me off as much as missing tweets.

Keep forgetting about the "official" Twitter app. Tweetbot blows it out of the water.

Tweetbot is the only app on the app store which charge for an update. What a load of sh.it.

Eh?

The only reason they charged for Tweetbot 4 is because is was a whole new app. If you're complaining about paying £2.99 (whatever it was), perhaps stop using it and stop complaining.

Looks even great on black iOS devices. Come on Apple implement it system-wide. Oh, and that unobtrusive volume HUD like the one on YouTube and Instagram.

I just want the official app to provide quicker access to my lists.

60 years later.

Thanks, T.

On a different note, I like Tweetbot's implementation better.

I concur, Twitteriffic's is pretty great too. Currently I'm using TweetBot although Twitterffic's night shift was more consistent with time-of-day (actually being at night) whereas TweetBot's seems to be more along with the ambient light around me.

See, the only thing that Twitter is missing is more keyboard shortcuts like Tweetbot. I use Tweetbot on my iPad and I use Twitter on my iPhone just because of the Push notifications.

Oh yea, its completely new app. Ofcourse I'm not going to pay twice for a different name of the same app.

Seriously, stop complaining. Is £2.99 really a lot of money to you!?

These people have to pay their mortgages.

If everything was free, eh?

Simple and clean.

I have to say, there appears to be some psychological barrier for some app purchases. £2.99 is probably a fair price, especially when you consider the months and months of work put into some of the apps. But it appears to some £2.99 might feel like £299 to some users. I think users may have become accustomed to lots of free apps.

Maybe the app store needs to experiment with how they display prices.

Instead of

£2.99

it should read

£2.99

With all due respect I don't think it matters how big or small the font is! You can clearly see a decimal place. If you can't, get over to Specsavers right away!!

Sure, you can see the decimal place, but one number actually appears more expensive than the other.
