Two Dell U2713HM monitors on late 2012 macmini?

I'm thinking of buying two U2713HM monitors for my late 2012 mac mini. However, I'm skeptical since the 2713HM only has 1 DisplayPort interface and no Mini DisplayPort , which means that my second monitor will have to be connected via HDMI or DVI.

Is there a way to connect both U2713HM monitors to my MacMini and get the maximum resolution (2560 x 1440) on both of them?

No. HDMI port only allows for 1920 x 1200. And you can't daisy chain two U2713H's either (the "bigger" brother of the U2713HM). Daisy chaining DP requires displayport 1.24 and the Thunderbolt port carries displayport 1.1 so no go there either. Only way (that I know of) to run two 1440P monitors is using the Apple Thunderbolt displays.

I was afraid of that... Oh well, I'll wait for the new TBDs then and depending on the price and connections on the new TBDs, I'll decide whether it makes sense to stick with 1440P or go with something cheaper but more flexible. Thanks.

Dual U2713 monitors with late 2012 Mac Mini

In the office we have a Mini and two Dell U2713 monitors. One monitor runs at full rez using Mini Display Port out to the standard Diplay Port in on the monitor (had to buy cable). Tried HDMI out to the DVI adapter (supplied with the computer) to DVI in on the monitor, but no luck there, as the post says above. Another problem is that with both monitors connected the Mini cannot adjust their positions using System Preferences / Displays. In summary, there is no way to run two U2713 monitors at full rez because the Mini needs two MDP ports out to do it (one to DP and the other to Dual-link DVI). The Mini's ports are a crippling weakness. We would buy them for business use but unfortunately cannot if they don't support two high rez displays (let alone 3 or 4). And Apple displays are too expensive, and having to use them goes against the whole point of the Mini, which is low relative cost (given the features) and flexibility.

If you want to show off, just get a 30 inch. 27 inch is so basic nowadays.

Can anyone tell me if I could run a 27" U2713hm (primary) and a 24" U2412m (secondary) and get the full resolution of each? The U2713hm connected mini display port to display port then the 24" U2412m would be HDMI to DVI. The U2412m only has a max resolution of 1920x1200 so would the HDMI support that along with a 2713 as a primary display?

Yes that wouldn't be a problem.

If you get the U2713H, not the HM, you can run 2 from your mini, as that Dell has a displayport forwarding option.

I will be running 2 Del 2412m's on my mini in the very near future. I think it will be awesome!

    Have you actually tried this?

I don't believe the DP "pass through" works yet with the Mini, due to limitations of the version of the DisplayPort functionality that is included on the "late 2012" version of the Mini.

Although I would expect that the upcoming Haswell Mini _will_ have an upgraded DisplayPort that will support pass-through.
