I bought a Mac in late 2009. (The newer MacBook) I had Snow Leopard, but I broke the hard drive. I took a hard drive from my brother's old Mac. I now have Leopard. I do have a Snow Leopard backup, but this is where I run into my first issue.

  1. When I try to do a backup, it does not find my external harddrive. The hard drive does work.
  2. There is no volume. It has a (/) under it. I plugged in head phones and I still have the issue. I have restarted the Mac and restored the OS.

Thank you for your time.

Book with the backup in System Preferences->Startup Disk and just using a cloning program like Carbon Copy Cloner and then clone back the new internal drive. Then boot back into the internal drive, easy.
