Sure, one can lose interest especially if it's IMPOSSIBLE to JB.

Of course but that's not the reasons people in this thread are giving. It would appear that nearly all of us quit when Apple added enough features to no longer make JB worthwhile for us, long before iOS11 blocked us.

The quote from Jay Freeman resonates perfectly with me: "It used to be that you got killer features that almost were the reason you owned the phone. And now you get a small minor modification."

On behalf of those of you who still care, I hope JB continues. But it's always been cat and mouse, and right now the cat is ahead.

Jailbreaking allows you to do whatever the heck you want with iOS. It wasn’t just apps, it was tweaks and themes to make the experience better, and oh man iOS needs it right now. iOS 11 is one of the worst iOS versions I’ve ever seen.
I agree... i prefer the older ios 8.. Those good ole days!!!

Long live jailbreak!!!

What you consider niche is a personal opinion and irrelevant.
What you would expect is a personal opinion and irrelevant.

Gosh, then you could extend that same logic to demand virtually any functionality in a stock mobile OS app.

Your rationalization of what should be in a stock app is also irrelevant.
The intent of the post you quoted was not to appease or cater to your expectations; rather it was to highlight some reasons why people may prefer waze.
As stated it was not an Apple maps bashing exercise.

And I just pointed out that one 'advantage' you gave of using Waze was just completely incorrect, and the others are niche features that virtually nobody uses to choose a mapping app.

How do you exploit a passenger using Waze marking the location of police car or police activity on the side of the road?

They flood the map with fake police activity, or simply move more often to get other users to flood the map for them to the point that you can't tell which alerts are legitimate. I'd really like the police activity feature to work well, but it just doesn't and I wouldn't even consider its inclusion as a feature when choosing mapping software.

So I got a new 7+ delivered yesterday that is on 10.2.1. I'm having a hard time deciding on whether to upgrade to 11 or stay put and hope the 10.2.1 jailbreak comes to the 7.

Eh, Apple added most of the most popular Jailbreaking tweaks over the years. There is far less reason to do it today compared to 5 years ago.
This is just the reason why jailbreaking still is needed. Especially with the poor decisions being made by Apple at this point we for sure still need jailbreaking to tweak the phone in the right direction hopefully gathering enough attention from apple for them to steal it without compensation. Its great really and i dont get why they dont allow some sort of "controlled jailbreaking" just for this reason alone.

I think that's a good argument, but in practice, I'm just not seeing the well-designed tweaks. In the early jailbreaking days, some tweaks were not only very useful additions, but also gave the impression of being thought out well.

For instance, SBSettings:

Do-Not-Disturb-Toggles.jpg

A fairly useful feature long, long before Control Center became a thing. And not just that: there were attractive themes, there was a plug-in API to add more toggles, and it was maintained for newer versions.

But these days, I'm finding it fairly hard to find anything useful, up-to-date and well-thought-out at all. They're often ugly, hard to use, don't work with the current OS, …

My one attempt at jailbreaking ended in disaster. I followed all of the instructions, and ended up with a bricked iPhone. It was an old one, but the danged software bricked it. I was very glad it wasn't my main iPhone, for sure.

I took it to a few people to look at, and they all said 'it happens sometimes'. Great. I never tried again. Maybe it was just bad luck, but I don't have the luxury I once had to risk expensive tools to 'should work fine' solutions to problems that are mostly cosmetic in the operating system.

Tap and hold to enter wiggle mode. Start dragging one. Then, with another finger, tap additional icons. They'll join the first.
That works! :)
Thanks for the tip.
[doublepost=1512136609][/doublepost]Personally I gave up on JB when I started using my iPhone as my main online banking tool…
None of my banks support a Jailbroken iPhone.
So… it had to go.

Sad to see the state of the iPhone these days.

My iPhone 5 on iOS 6.1 JB was the best portable device I've had, I foolishly updated to 7.0 JB, and finally 8.3 JB to get away from the mess of 7. It is still super functional, but due to cracked screen and camera lens, I upgraded it to a Sony XZ Premium only a few months back. Whilst a significant upgrade, it's a more similar device to my JB 5 than whatever the new iPhone choices are...

The iPhone X is just a gimmick and with barebones iOS to boot.., iOS has seen plenty of updates since the app store in 2.0, but it lacks versatility. Jailbreaking then being able to swap to local accurate weather info, swiping multitasking features with Auxo, torrenting, file management, no restrictions, full customization with Springtomize 3, white balance in the camera app, slo mo on the iPhone 5, pattern unlock, lock screen weather, sbsettings, custom control centre toggles, activator - being able to set a huge array of button press/swipes/taps to be assigned to a huge number of tasks like torch on by double pressing home button when the screen is off, short holding volume buttons skip music tracks, both volume buttons together play/pause for in-pocket muscic control, no carrier labels, no icon labels, animated app page transitions, custom resolutions to resize iOS elements and maximise screen space (iOS 7 on small screen devices SUCKS, but rendered on a 5 like a 6 or 6+ is ideal).

There was soooooo much on offer, plenty amazing new ideas and wonderful executions.. music apps that played along with lyrics, game platform emulation, custom and complex app switching.

There was relatively no additional security risk, it was literally an amazing conglomeration of hard work presented as an increasingly simple and wonderful offering.
I really appreciate the many hours of hard work that allowed me to have the device I used to have, and for so long. There's no way I could have used it as a primary mobile computer for that time without the addition to the software jailbreaking offered.
And there's no way I'd ever consider an iPhone without a jailbreak, Android 8.0 is extremely good with the Sony XZP, Apple has lost its magic, kept it's totally limited stance and it's price tag has increased.

Lots of idiots here who never understood what they missed out on. I have voted with my wallet and I am surprised how rewarded I've been going back to Sony Ericsson. They haven't forgotten how to make an amazing phone.
