quick question. you think that when we wake up in the morning, the apple website will be updated with all the new goodies, or will the updates take place AFTER the big event tomorrow (what time is the event taking place?)

Now what would be the point of an announcement if the products were already announced (by putting them on the website). The website will be updated during or after the event. 😀

I don't believe Apple has ever updated the website before an event (with the exception of a few little quirks/bugs that rumor-mongers often prey upon). The event takes place at 10am Pacific Time tomorrow, I believe. And I'll be stuck in two history classes. 🙁

Its fun to follow live, but its not like you can get that great of information live. The most you can ever get is "text" updates. Just log onto Apple, com, when you get out, and then come here to discuss. Still fun.

I will be in front of a computer morning anyways, so I will be refreshing that apple website like a mofo 🙂

Here's what I am thinking:
pink nano, black versions of all ipods, video playback on new 40/80gb ipods.
All powerbooks are now widescreen, with the 15" & 17" being HD displays, small speed bumps, more standard stuff, DL burner option, blah blah.
Powermac's, price drop rather than speed bump (didnt they just give it a speed boost?), more standard ram, better standard video, AP & BT standard.
Black iBook's and iMac's, new 15" and 17" widescreen monitors, official mac mini updates.

I don't know, everyone jumped on the rumor band wagon, so I gave it a shot (so even if they are dumb and far fetched, give me a break 🙂 )

Would Steve dare release minor upgrades to the PowerMacs, Powerbooks, and iPod (NOT vPod) lines then turn aroud and say... "One more thing...."?

I think it'd be pretty strange for him to start with the words 'One more thing', it's likely there will be at least one announcement before the 'one more thing'.

This could be: Macs, then movie store, or
vPod, then movie store, or
Macs, then non-video iPod, or
whatever...

Don't forget...

We know for sure that Apple has updated the Mac Mini... This has to be part of the announcement since Apple still has not updated their website, nor have they made the official announcement. While I doubt this is the big announcement, it may play a role somewhere..

I think the Mini update, while handled in an odd way inventory-wise, is just a low-key update that won't get any more attention--other than the site being updated once the old ones are cleared out.

I think it's a fairly typical way to manage things. When new processors come out, it's usually cheaper to downclock the faster ones than to maintain two separate production runs. They've probably stopped buying 1.42GHz processors and the mini's particular Radeon model in favor of another product and they're intentionally down-labeling the upgraded units because it's cheaper for them to do so than actually continuing to sell 1.42's. I had another common example of this, but now I can't remember, hehe.

Filling in more details of the October 12th announcement, ThinkSecret reports that two new iPods will be introduced on October 12th.

The new two iPod models will reportedly replace the current $299 and $399 models and be sold at the same price. The iPods are expected to be bumped to 40GB and 80GB capacities with slightly smaller form factors and offer two different colors (Black and White).

ThinkSecret also notes that "at least four new Mac configurations" will be released on Wednesday, but no further details are available.

*********************************
OK !!! Let's stop all this speculation and
listen to the Voice of Truth :

SJ will unveil several mac configurations -
one being,

A BLACK G5 iMac to follow the black iPods -
Nano, U2, and new iPods. Remember that the G5 iMac was designed to resemble the iPod. Maybe a 23" model --- I hope --- with matching black kb, m, etc.

A 12" Powerbook with lit kb.

......THEN ..... comes the one more thing :

iPod V with 16 x 9 screen -- wireless to large monitors/ tv's , tivo function,

and mocha frap squirt nozzle.

Uh oh! Competitors will complain that Apple has selected just one flavor to endorse, and refusing to license the format of the new iPods, making other DRMed flavors incompatible.

Also, will it be several weeks before the frappuccino accessory packs are available? I'd hate to have to wait until I can make use of the nozzles and want my storage bottle messenger bag to be available that same day!

Oh, so they've already defaced iPods with Madonna once, and they're going to do it AGAIN????!!

I still vote for a David Bowie iPod.

Hah! Maybe the first time didn't attract enough (any?) attention for the material girl.

I think the themed iPods are silly.

Good point! 😀

I do too. The Harry Potter one was kind of neat. Maybe they need to make a Lord of the Rings video iPod! Oh, I know, a STAR WARS iPod video, now THAT would really sell!
(although I wouldn't buy one!)

"One More Thing..." Microsoft is buying Apple.....

No no no, "One More Thing" is APPLE buying MICROSOFT! 😛

After spending 8 hours fighting with Windows XP, and ending up doing a restore, I don't think Apple would WANT them! 😱

Well, at least the late night TV is good tonight - gonna be a long haul. Might go to bed at the end of this show and get up again later.
