Two simple questions regarding Image Capture and Firewall

1. How come whenever my printer is on, and I insert an SD card, and Image Capture opens, it automatically starts scanning from my printer? I have to wait until the printer is done scanning before I can import stuff from my SD card!

2. Should I have the firewall turned on in System Preferences?

1. I'd check the printer/scanner settings; the scanner is probably set to warm up every time Image Capture invokes the driver. Contact tech support for the printer.

2. If you have a router with a good firewall you probably don't need the Mac's firewall on, but it depends on what you are sharing with your internal network and the outside world. If you are the NSA you have different needs than one person behind a wifi router with a good password and an existing firewall.
