FYI, found out the hard way (i.e., trial and error followed by waiting on Apple support) that to get two factor verification working on an older Apple TV, to stream movies purchased, you have to catenate the iCloud password and the verification code when submitting the iCloud password. If that makes any sense. For example, if xxxxx is your password and yyyyyy is the verification code just received, submit xxxxxyyyyyy as your iTunes/iCloud password.

Supposedly, two step verification was designed this way for the Apple TV 3, even though the Apple TV will prompt separately for the verification code and will NOT state to combine the two. Maddening.

I'm having this problem and not quite ready to buy ATV 4k. I have not used my older Apple TV for about a year and pulled it out because I want to watch a movie I purchased last year. I don't have a copy of the movie but I could get it from iTunes.

In the ATV settings I am signed in but it still sends me to the screen to enter my username when I try to access the movie. My username is already populated so I click submit and it prompts for my password. I enter the password and submit, then it sends the verification code asking me to enter the code. I enter the code then it goes back to the screen with the populated username. I tried over and over again and only get the same result.

I think your solution will work but I don't understand where I place the catenated password. I use it as the verification code?

I know this thread is old but maybe someone can help me.

In the password prompt, don't enter just the verification code, or the password. Instead enter both, as a combined password.

umm.. interesting...seems Apple passes the password and verification but doesn't check "how" its done. They could hav restricted that they wanted to, but probably allowed in on purpose.
