two stupid questions

i just got a new 2010 mbp and i have a couple questions.

1. is it safe to transport the mbp while it is sleeping without risking hard drive damage, or should i completely shut down the computer.

2. i recently purchased this monitor http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824001335

as far as the cables go that i need to connect my mbp to it what would i need?

would a mini display port to dvi and then a dvi to hdmi work?

I think it is safe to transport, while it is sleeping. I've sone so, many hundreds of times, with no apparent issues.

I would think you would go directly from mini display port directly to HDMI.

According to the link the monitor has a dvi input. So you could just use the minidisplay to dvi and be all done. Just another option.

would i not get sound thru the speakers hooked up to my mbp if i used that cord? is there a way around the audio issue?

Yeah its safe ta transport it while its sleeping. The hard drive head parks when you put it in sleep mode. And it locks up when you move it, so nothing get damaged 😀
