Ok let me first admit I'm a total Apple fan boi. The first thing I did when I got my new car a couple weeks ago was put on a new Apple sticker on the back window.

Anyways, anyone else counting down the days? I'm tired of watching the promo video and commercial. I just want to touch the iPad with my own fingers and say Boom! Since the late 90's I always thought it would be cool to have a tablet device just sitting around the house that I can easily access to pull up recipes, check show times, etc. Yeah I can do that with a laptop, but I'm more interested in doing it in an interactive way. Maybe I'm just silly but thats how I feel.

Although I pre-ordered I still plan on going to the Apple store on the 3rd to see how the public is reacting to the iPad.

I am so excited about the iPad. I haven't gone so far as to cut out a mock iPad to hold, but I've thought about it. I check this forum many times a day to see if there are any new postings. I go to Amazon to see if any new cases have appeared. Basically I have no life right now, while I wait until I get my iPad :). Pretty pathetic for a 59 year old man.

I was in my local Apple Store yesterday and it was cute how excited the sales rep helping me was about the iPad. (He was maybe 20, so I don't think he had the guile for it to be completely an act; and he knew I had already pre-ordered one so he had no reason to try to sell me anyway.) I was getting a new iPhone but we spent most of the time chatting about the iPad.

I asked him how many customers walked into the store and asked to buy the iPad right now (meaning, how many people didn't realize it wasn't out yet but still came in to buy one), and he said "about every second person through the door".

We talked about how crazy that Saturday is going to be at the store. He said April 3rd is one day after their payday, so he'd asked a corporate rep if they could just keep the paycheck and give him the iPad. It was very, very obvious that he was as excited to get his iPad as most of the people posting in this subforum.

(I'm sure they are instructed to talk it up as much as possible. I'm just saying his enthusiasm was obviously genuine, and it was cute.)

Edit to add a note to poster above: This was in the Durham/Southpoint store. :)

Not counting down or anything like that. However, I did think about printing out one of those iPad cut-outs, but only so I could make sure it would fit in a bag I was thinking about getting.

Yeah, but 6 weeks to go if you want a 3G iPad. That sucks.

I won't be able to purchase until the 1st of April and there's no Apple Store near me, so hopefully they can get iPads shipped pretty quickly to those late to the dance.

Yeah it does. I bet you they have everything ready with the 3g, its just the production runs. They need another factory.

You can preorder now and I've heard you don't get charged until it ships, which would probably be around April 1st.

I know I cannot wait for mine. I already have that day set aside so I make sure I am home when UPS or FedEx Delivers it. What sucks is they don't come until around Noon at my house.

This is true. My credit card has not been charged yet.

Probably best to dig up the big thread about this before ordering if your balance is running low. It depends on your bank and if you are using a credit/debit card.

For example, I used a Wachovia debit card and they pre-auth'd my card for the full amount+tax. This pre-auth fell off after a few days but for that time those funds were on hold. Proceed with caution if you can't cover a pre-auth.

I only use debit, so I can't take the risk, as much as I'd like to.

I ordered mine to be delivered to my house as well. This wait is driving me nuts. Its going sooo slow. I even downloaded a counter app for my desktop that is counting down the days, hours, minutes, and seconds. I downloaded an app for my Droid as well to display how many hours.

Btw, where can I print out one of those mock iPads. I wanna see how big it'll be. Thanks.

Retirement = Nothing to do and All day to do it

Me too! I'm a few days short of my 59th birthday and have been retired for several years. I do the same thing (check the forum repeatedly for new posts, surf the web for iPad related info). Fortunately, I do always seem to find fun, relaxing things to do to fill out my days. I do any and everything I didn't have the time to do when I worked. Woo Hoo!

I didn't go quite that far. I noted the dimensions then created my own custom case for it though. I can't wait to get it but the anticipation is fun too :D

A group (6 or 7) of us are going to protest outside the Apple Store. We will have signs warning people that there's no flash, no camera, no USB ports and a glossy display.

Calm down fan boys, it's a joke.

The use of Comic Sans is a sure sign of sheer excitement.

Not sure I understand your question  but I made a custom case for my iPad.
I posted pictures of it here:

Now this just proves that those of you in the "almost 60" demographic have too much time on your hands. As a young man of 57, I only check in here about 3 times a day, max. And I don't read everything. Unless I'm bored.

Seriously though -- it's kind of interesting that people of our generation are excited about this particular product. I wonder why? We're old enough to have seen "revolutionary" products come and go. Mostly go.

This is the first time I've jumped for a new device on Day 1 since original 128k Macintosh in 1984. In the years between, I've behaved like a grown-up and waited a year or two for the product to mature. Not this time.

Wow, it's great to see that I'm not the only older person that is excited about the iPad. I spent 34 years supporting various platforms and networks during my working life and the older I got the more I tried to simplify things. Whenever someone would come to me looking for a solution, they would want all kinds of complicated, involved solutions. I would always come up with the easiest, simplest solutions. That is why I switched to Macs after I retired. Just for the simplicity and that is why I like the iPad (and iPhones). They are simple and easy to use. Yes, they may not have every bell and whistle that other devices might have, but I don't care. I want something the turns on fast, does what I want in an easy fashion and works like it is supposed to. And if it doesn't have Flash, multi-tasking or a camera, I really don't care. I have shopped around a lot and seriously thought about getting a Toshiba T135 laptop, but just as soon as I started playing with one and it had to download the latest virus updates before it would let me do anything; I said no way would I ever go back to Windows.

To that young 57 year old whipper snapper from an almost 59 year old senior citizen ;)
I've always been a gadget/tech freak. The difference now is that I have more time to play with my "toys" :p Yeah, I'm glad that I'm in the baby boomer group because we have seen technology change drastically in our lifetime.
