I'm considering updating to a M1 Macbook in the near future and one of the advantages that seems to come with MBA is that its surface where your palms rest while typing is not completely flat as it is with MBP, but instead slightly inclined downwards from what I can tell. Which could potentially benefit your wrists during typing.

Does that make it more pleasant to type on a MBA while in your lap? I'm noticing on my late-2011 MBP that typing on it while using it in the lap can feel kind of uncomfortable for my wrists (due to somewhat sharp edges at the bottom of chasis). Also, while simply using touchpad with one hand the sharp edge can make your palm uncomfortable on a MBP!

What are your experiences? Will MBA actually be more pleasant to type on while using it in the lap? As my current use is in the lap 99% of the time.

All the laptops have a very slight taper. I never type with mine on my lap, but I can imagine itd make it slightly better..... Like I said, the taper is very minimal.
