@iStudentUK - thanks for all the useful info you have assembled, much appreciated!

My current understanding is that all the uplift option will buy me, beyond the standard HE 3yrs Parts & Labour, is:

1. Global coverage - worth considering if I might spend any of the next 3yrs abroad.

2. They collect - worth considering if I don't happen to live near an Applestore or authorised service provider.

Would you happen to know if displays bought at the same time are covered by the standard HE 3yrs Parts & Labour?

It would appear that, if buying the uplift option, displays are covered - the "Learn more" description of Applecare (accessible from the area of the purchase screen that offers the uplift option and no alternative Applecare-branded option) specifically mentions "Apple display purchased with your Mac".

... but it would be interesting to know if displays also get the 3yrs Parts & Labour as standard. If they do, I am not at all sure it is worth paying the £48, I certainly never needed the uplift option I paid for on my last Macbook.

Firstly, Apple will still pick up with the standard free warranty, you aren't forced to take it in.

The 3 years warrarnty only applies to desktops and laptops, I'm pretty sure not displays or any other accessory. If you pay the extra money you get normal AppleCare, in which case you should get 3 years on add ons purchased with your device.

That's a good point, I'll update the thread in my sig to point that out.
