I’m always thrilled to get the new iPhone and set it up but I love being part of this forum and it’s always a bit anti-climactic when it‘s time to say good-bye for another year.

I read the comments here on my 15PM simply excited for you all! I do this every year and in some cases am participating in a purchase of my own. Not as frequently these days though.

Hey, depending upon what iPhone you are moving from, and to, you can use a fast cable to transfer between phones. I'll be going from iPhone 15 Pro Max to 16 Pro Max, I'm thinking I'll go with a ThunderBolt 4 USB-C cable on this Pro phones to see what kind of speeds I can get. That's going to be a fun experiment!

I do intend to add an encrypted backup from 15PM to my MBP into my preparations.
Hi, I am trying to do a cable transfer between Air and 16 Pro.
Don't want to use my work WiFi and don't want to wait till I get home.

Why does the message about celluar data pop up ?
Why doesn't the cable to cable connection show up?

The Air only has a usb 2.0 not a usb 3.0 port like the pro has so depending on the amount of files it would take a long time on a usb 2.0 port. I did a cable transfer this afternoon from a 16 pro max to a 17 pro max and it worked without issues and was super fast.

Yes I am aware.
I just want to know why I can't do a cable transfer.

Stupid me. I forgot to unlock SIM Protection for my T-Mobile cellular. The transfer failed. After I unlocked it, I went into the new iPhone Settings/Cellular and was able to transfer the eSIM to the new iPhone.

Wireless transfer using iCloud was smooth besides my stupid mistake of not unlocking the eSIM. Kept the Apple Watch Series 10 on my wrist the whole time and it's now on the new iPhone without me doing a darn thing.

Finally UPS showed up!! Unfortunately, I have no time right now to set it up because I have to drive to the Apple Store to pickup my AWU3 at 7 pm.

I also had a bit of cellular weirdness on my phone. For some reason when I did the pre-pre order, it never asked for my carrier info or anything like that, even though I said I wanted to replace my current phone and keep the same number. Normally when I get a new phone, it already has my SIM pre-loaded, but I had to go in and manually set it up through my carrier website. My wife’s phone also on the upgrade program and the exact same plan had her SIM pre-loaded🤷‍♀️

iPhone 17 Pro Max needed to be updated during the transfer process. Waiting for iCloud to be transferred to new phone. Cellular still not set up. Hmm....
Same also seems to be slow to activate on Verizon. Didn’t activate in the time it took to download the update and do the first reboot.

Did you have your eSIMs locked?

It's a 16 Pro Max. Glad to hear it. How many times did you charge it?
Just whenever it needed it. Mainly at night, over night via MagSafe. I was quite shocked when I looked and seen it at 100%. Only phone I ever had stay at 100% battery health upon trade in

You definitely had a good one. I could probably bump my charging up to 100% since I'll most probably be trading it in next year, but since the 17 Pro Max has a bigger battery, I'll keep it at 80% and see how that works out. There were a few times when I could have used the extra juice. And the system charges the iPhone to 100% at times.
