Wow, the airport personnel and flight crews were making verbal announcements prior to flights? I figured there were just signs posted at check in and at the TSA checkpoint. I obviously haven't flown since the whole Note 7 debacle.

Somehow, a verbal announcement seems to be even worse for the brand than a simple sign. I'm sure the brand will recover; but man, 2016 kicked their ass!

I flew about 50 times since this started and heard it over and over. Talk about embarrassing!

It looks like the Note 7 fiasco as a setup.

First, the media started falsely advertising that the Note 7 exploded. But by definition an object that exploded should be into multiple parts, and if you at ALL the Pictures of the "Note 7 Exploded", the Note 7 STILL still on one piece. Even when they drop the Note 7 from a 1000 FT, it remained in one piece.

Second, from a total of 26 Fire Incidents of the Note 7, 12 where confirmed as FAKE by Samsung, and the remaining 14 were cancelled claims or cases in which claimants said they threw away their phones. Come on, Samsung is a big company, they should have the balls to push back on all that FAKE propaganda by the media, paid by Apple.

There's a lot of videos on YouTube of people trying to make the Note 7 to "Explote", but it never happened.

Compared to iPhone 7 explosions, that you can clearly see that it didn't remain on one piece:

Third, after the recalls almost 3 months ago there have been ZERO Note 7 incidents, that doesn't sounds weird? Keep in mind that most of the existing Note 7 users have blocked any updates and can still charge their Note 7 to 100%

Anyone that understand basic statistics, using the available VERIFIED data can conclude that there's more change you have a car accident DAILY or get strike by lighting that your existing Note 7 gets on fire in the next 2 years.

Fourth, SDI Battery are currently in used on multiple smartphones without any issues, and even the Next Galaxy S8 will continue to use them.

No one really cares. Not being dismissive, but seriously, no one really cares. Samsung will move on, we will move on. It will become an MR meme like antennagate, bendgate, donglegate. Heck, it already has.

I'm not discounting what you've posted; I haven't closely followed the story. Do you have sources to your claim which I bolded?

I hate it when these forums go on about Samsung copying Apple, but this has tipped me over.

Bixi? Siri? Really?!

Actually, the name is Bixby. Not sure how they got that so wrong. On purpose maybe? Just so someone would take the bait and start a flame war?

I've always said that I found it very strange that not a single person or investigator could make the Note 7 battery overheat and melt down. Then when the reports of Note 7 failures immediately stopped after the cancelation, I just thought that's even more odd. Also the fact that nobody wanted to return their melted down phones for investigation also very odd. Corporate sabotage wouldn't surprise me.

It looks like the Note 7 fiasco as a setup.

So Samsung, a global brand with highly sophisticated marketing and legal teams, simply rolled over and allowed its flagship product to be branded as a safety risk, it's brand to be tarnished, and its coffers to be emptied of millions upon millions of dollars because...?

In other words, if there was no issue, why did Samsung admit there was, to their own substantial detriment?

You really do have to wonder.

I love how the stupid curved screen makes it look like display has bad shading along edges.

I would just end the Galaxy line and just come up with a new name. The general public just puts all of Samsung's phones into the same "Galaxy" category anyway.

In an ideal world they would release a few phones per year, 4-6 and they would make sure they all get quick updates and multi-year support.

Try Huawei Mate 9, it's nearly stock Android 7 and or you can install the Google Now launcher which is basically stock Android. Or grab a pixel (I went with the Mate 9, I need dual sim, and I freaking love it)
I'm looking for a phone similar in size to the iPhone 6 4.7 body. The mate 9 is quite large.

I might consider the Pixel 2 if it is any good when it comes out, the Pixel seemed disappointing in what you get for the price. Shame it is in Apple pricing territory.

Wow, the airport personnel and flight crews were making verbal announcements prior to flights?

They sure did. Over the PA in boarding areas... flight crews along with the seatbelt & floatation routine. One wonders if Samsung cut some kind of deal to get that ended. That isn't exactly the kind of exposure a company wants.

I kind of wondered how/why they were even allowed that far though... wouldn't it be easier to screen them out when going through security? If you forget you have a hunting knife, they don't let you through and then depend on the flight attendants to say, "if you've brought a hunting knife on board, please notify us or turn it in before the flight."

And, isn't a bit scary that there are still 2% of how many millions still out there?

.

Facts. They're not really required on the internet.

Switching gears. If that image of the S8 is accurate then... damn. If I can get it in black or that blue color then that's my next phone. So much screen. So little bezel.
I'm loving my Mat

I wish my eyes could still handle a smaller phone...:D Now I'm carrying my 6+ and the Mate 9, pockets hate me

I know there was initial talk that the TSA was going to be on the lookout for Note 7s. Clearly, that wasn't happening (shocker) if they were making announcements in the boarding area and on the plane. The TSA was probably actively looking for Note 7s for a few days when the phone was first banned and then they just went back to doing their normal routine.

The last time I flew (September) American made an announcement on both our flight to and from Florida that Note 7 devices are to be turned off. I haven't flown since then, but I'm sure the majority of passengers didn't pay attention to the announcement to begin with.
