People use Chrome because the stench of IE still prevents people from using Edge. I swear IE was so bad that permanently (like myself) would never actually use it. I use Safari and Chrome but I only use Safari cause that's the default. Chrome is actually faster and better than Safari.

What apple needs to do is allow non webkit browsers on mobile. Chrome on iOS is limited by WebKit.

I mean, everyone in the DOJ is about to be fired next year, so I highly doubt anything comes from this. We are moving back into a monopoly-favorable political environment.
On the other hand, if you portray Google’s market dominance as being anti-free speech, it could quickly go the other way. Brendan Carr, who was designated today to head the FCC, tweeted that “Facebook, Google, Apple, Microsoft & others have played central roles in the censorship cartel“ and “We must dismantle the censorship cartel and restore free speech rights for everyday Americans.”

They allow it in the EU yet not a single company has bothered to make one yet

Couldn't Alphabet spin up a new company, name it "Owning the Libs"; assign a New CEO, and then purchase Chrome from itself? /S (kind of)

Have you tried using Edge lately? It's terrible and not because of IE.

Decouple the advertising machinery from all other products. Choose whether to sell off either the advertising or the search engine to a competitor.
Right, as well as decouple a$$le store, so even their music service will have to pay the 30% tax and we'll have fair competition :)

Or decoupling is a good idea only for "enemies"?

I don't see how they have a monopoly as you can use different browsers and search engines. People use Chrome because they like it. I personally use FireFox or Safari. Hell, Microsoft went all in on Chrome because they found that Microsoft Edge was inferior to Chrome.
The issue is that Google effectively controls the web standards. Virtually every web site and web app is designed to work on Chrome first, and often exclusively (i.e. only by luck on Safari and Firefox). Other browser vendors have no leverage against Google, and can only try to emulate Chrome as closely as possible. Microsoft gave up on maintaining their own browser engine and switched Edge to Chromium. The only other browser engine with relevant market share is Safari’s WebKit, and that’s strictly limited to Apple devices.

In a world where tech and politics are gruesomely colliding, Chrome will be sold to Elon Musk who will integrate it with Twitter - thus brute forcing 2 billion new user signups. (EDIT: apparently Chrome commands nearly 3.5 billion users, half of which will likely balk at the takeover)

Chrome will then be rebranded to X+ and each new browser window will now redirect to Musk’s personal Twitter feed.
