Trump's thinking: Apple will build a virus detection feature in the next Apple Watch and then give us the data.

The data is anonymous.

"aggregate anonymous location data"
Settings -> General -> About
Model, Serial Number, Wi-Fi Address, Bluetooth, IMEI, ICCID, MEID, SEID are all tied to YOUR number, are all used to let your phone connect and move between network towers and hotspots. So, please tell me again how this "aggregate anonymous location data" is truly anonymous ... I can't type it with without giggling.

We have already let the government have way too much control in this case, we needed to stand up to them and say no, because what they have done is ultimately going to lead to more death and disease than we can imagine due to the number of people that will loose their jobs and homes because of all of the shut downs.

NOTE: I am not saying that we shouldn't be doing anything to combat the spread of this disease, we absolutely should, but I am saying that what we are doing is going to be counterproductive in the long run and there were better options that would have been much more effective than this.

Then they want us to allow the government to use our phone data (and let's be blunt, it will never be private), the answer is no, once again there are better options.

if this happens, all my devices are going in airplane mode until coronavirus goes away (and takes this with it)

ah uh....... So, location tracking is considered bad for companies to do, yet when its in the interest of "potentially saying lives" it's considers good ? And now we are just suppose to "trust" what we have always feared by the governments, Facebook, and Google?

What kind of world do we even live in ?

And how will anonymous location data be tied to the infection status?

Who says it is KEPT anonymous NOW when its in the interest of HELPING combat this.

Why should we trust now when its the reversal of what we ave away done previously ? Privacy doesn't have 'notches'

South Korea, Japan, Israel, and China are already using smartphone tech to track COVID patients.

If you want COVID to spread, then don't lockdown. Don't track. Body temp is also "private" information, right? So is whether or not you test positive, right?

The article clearly says "anonymous"....

Tech companies could aggregate anonymous location data that could be used to map the spread of the coronavirus and determine whether social distancing is an effective virus mitigation strategy.

Just wanted to point that out.

Stats. Analytics. Being able to bring up an accurate visual diagram showing real-world locations. It's tremendously helpful data when anonymized and displayed in an easy-to-interpret format. People should not be afraid of the basic concept.

It's if this apps asks for your personal data and stores that on external servers... that's where the concern is. Will they abuse this to use it for other purposes?

The idea makes perfect sense IF the data collected is truly anonymous. Currently there's so much mistrust of the government, though, that I can't see this going over well with the general public.

This is where the safety of society at large supersedes any individual rights.

Once a subject is found to be a carrier, I am for back-tracking the history of the individual's geo-location and proximity to others -- with the individual's colocation information collected and archived, encrypted, in the cloud.

This virus contagion is exponential (reasonable estimates are 1.25^n, where n is the number of days, effectively doubling the sick population every three days). And until some mRDA inoculation is proven effective, maybe more than one year away, our society is at risk, and indirectly, all our freedoms are at risk as well.

["Full speed ahead!" with maximum effort, without reservations or delay, against this menace.]

If this would help slow the spread, I would be fine if Apple came up with a safe method of sharing my location information. I would trust them to turn that information flow back off when the time was right. I would not be supportive of Apple just inviting the government in to get what they want, but I seriously doubt that is the approach Apple would take here. I'm sure they would do it in an appropriate way where they control the information and the flow of that information.

And somehow, this is not in PRSI forum. It is gonna get ugly soon.

The government tracking its citizen? That sounds just like what CCP has been doing.

Well what i've already said, doesn't excel because of this..

You are, and will be forever trusting them at some stage in life...

Google “Edward Snowden - Permanent Records” read it.

And so now you know just ONE of the reasons why Wuhan Virus was developed. There are many more reasons. After every false flag the curtains are always unveiled. Oh but wait, the virus is from eating bats and snakes right? smh

Is it just me... I find it hard to believe that the government isn’t already tracking our location.

Next mutation is going to be sweating I bet. With the headline of smartphones being used for something usually can be handled with the sweating gene.

Have a look at this if you want to know how your government behaves with your privacy when it knows you're not looking.
