I'm talking about the necessary bandwidth to stream a 4k movie off a server, not the bandwidth to drive a ultra high resolution display over a wire. HDMI offers us a 5Gb connection, yet we're able to stream a Blu-Ray quality 1080p movie over a 35Mb internet connection.

Next time you use that rolleye emote, make sure you're up to speed, and actually know what we're talking about.

Uh huh, replying to the context of: Streaming a 4K monitor over the internet, cloud computing, and the general feasibility and bandwidth limitations of running a computer from miles away over the internet. This was about the point where you interjected with "streaming 4K video can work already" which not only has bandwidth use that is unremarkable in comparison, but has nothing to do with what we're talking about.

Microsoft is the best advertising campaign that Apple could never create.

The latest products out of Redmond ooze with contempt and hostility, utterly exploding beyond recognition the concept of usability.

How's that hole?

NAW! Seriously though I picked up a Window 8.1 tablet and it runs EXACTLY like MacOSX in almost 70% of what you'd need to do. Fifteen percent of the time it's running better than OSX. Ten percent of the time it's a PITA.

It's that 5% that kills you . . . . those are where the bugs are.

Do you mean that when you actually are able to find what you're looking for and launch it, it opens and runs . . . . . yeah, just like, exactly like OS X; or Linux, or Unix, or any other operating system on computer hardware.

Hopefully, code monkey's and software publishers would adhere to a higher bar; one that includes an easy path, an intuitive flow, readily available links, icons, and screen access. Not the nested, buried, irrational chaos that Microsoft foists off upon their install base.

If Apple made a full line of desktop PCs Mac sales would dramatically increase even more.
Gotta agree with you there: the Mac Mini is not a headless iMac. Why they so stubbornly refuse to make one is not clear to me.

Even the current Mac Pro: supposing they *also* sold one with the more or less exact same innards, but still in the cheese grater box, with 6 open drive bays, 4 PCIe slots, ports front & back...

That sounds a lot like iOS or Android.

Ever root Android? Yeah, every distro I tried.

Stock is usually pretty close to iOS imo (albeit with more uninstallable crapware). They got nothing on Windows though, which lays files out adhering to a consistently inconsistent structure that really doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

Of course, that's bound to increase dramatically once buyers of new Mac's realize their systems are non-upgradeable and their forced to pony up for another new system sooner than expected just to keep up. More RAM? Too bad. Faster SSD? Too bad. Faster WIFI? Too bad. Better graphics? Too bad.

Forced? Sooner than expected? Just make sure you buy the system with the requirements you need when you purchase the computer. If you don't have enough experience with computers to make that kind of decision, there should be plenty of people who can help you.

Just hit the start button. It's exactly like launchpad on MAC OSX except that it shows live tiles and updates like widgets and gadgets from Android and Windows 7 respectively. Or do a search like you do in Spotlight or Google search.

True that. Especially once you get over 20 or so downloaded apps that aren't in folders. They're really hard to find when each page looks exactly like the last.

You mean IOS looks like pure Android. And folks need to stop with the unstable ************ when it comes to Android. The stock apps and mainstream apps are fine and in many cases far better than iOS.

I still can't get safari, a stock app, to not crash on some Web pages or with some mainstream apps like Evernote.

Alrighty then.

I'll just wait here while you do that . . . . .

*crickets*

So you choose to add nothing to the conversation. Got it.

This comment actually lets everyone know that you haven't even touched Windows 7 or 8 or 8.1

So now that actual worldwide sale results are out, do we think Gartner or IDC was more correct about the U.S. sales?
