Depends which company you work for in England, last company was 20 days holiday no sick pay and annual shutdown of 10 working days, present company 25 days holiday and full sick pay for 13 weeks no annual shutdown only trouble is the company is so busy that I've only been able to take 5 days off so far to date, usually we have to take holiday when it suits the company, which means almost never when you want it, several times I've had to negotiate either being paid for unused holiday or losing some and carrying over some. I usually enjoyed more holidays with the company that offered less.

I plan on working in the film industry, so I'll probably work 25 days and I'll be unemployed the rest of the year. :D

Yikes, I feel for ya powermac666 - that's rough. :( I'm glad you're at least making enough for the wife to stay home with the kids - I think that's very beneficial for the kids to be spending their days with their real Mom, not some babysitter or nanny.

 No need to feel for me (but thanks ;) ), I was just listing my stats for comparison to others. I have a good job, I like what I do and have fun with the people I work with. I don't think of it as overly demanding or time-consumptive, but maybe after 20 years I've lost some perspective. I'm used to 50+ hour work weeks.
(5 x 52) - 29 total paid leave days + 20 weekend days = 251 out of 365 days of work. I get 31% of the year off. :p

I know lots of families need both parents working to get by, so we're pretty lucky I have a good job. Would I prefer to work 35 hour weeks and make $200,000? Heck yeah.

My apologies powermac666, perhaps I came across the wrong way - I guess I incorrectly got a feel that perhaps you weren't happy with things, which obviously isn't the case. And I'm glad that isn't the case, it is very important to like what you do. :) I guess I just quickly read your post, and it seemed like for 20+ years of work, the hours you put in and the time you have off seemed a bit, well, unfair (compared to what you might deserve.)

Sorry for any confusion!

I think we all would. ;)

It's all good, Studly. Wasn't offended, just bemused. :p
