help: im trying to make the usb stick but it says this cannot be read by the mac. i followed the instructions and all

You mean you get that message AFTER you erased the stick, or simply when you first insert it?

If you still need to erase (format) the USB stick, then just open Disk Utility, choose the stick, and erase it. If that doesn't appear to work, you may need to select the stick (the line with manufacturer's info), and click the Partition tab.
Click the Partition Layout drop-down, and change to 1 partition. Click Options, and make sure that GUID is selected - or MBR might be good if you are using it with Linux/windows. You can change the format to ExFAT, or MS-DOS(FAT) - either will work. Name it if you like, and click Apply. When the format completes, it's ready to use.

ah yeah i got it now, i just decided to reboot and boot from USB, no clue which partition to choose though to install on, the screen looks confusing :( I know i allocated 600gb just now for a FAT partition. so i'll just look for a 6 followed by 00000's.

You just gave 600GB to Linux!? Isn't that a huge portion of your HD?

I have 2 tb so its not even half now. And no worries, i just deleted it and started over once I knew it was all clear and i did it right. linux has 156gb (the minimum i could give) rest is mostly mac, with like 6 or 700gb allocated for FAT32.

Uber noob questions about Time Machine, and External HDD's.

You can set the partition size to whatever you want (there isn't a 156GB limit).

Whats the difference between all of these 2 tb hard drives by WD? They all look the same to me lol

Difference between the one you got and the one I linked? Color of the case, "For Mac" printed on said case, the file system the drive is formatted with out of the box and possibly the software included on the drive (the one that isn't "For Mac" includes Windows applications, not sure what the "For Mac" version includes). All the software can be downloaded from www.wdc.com though.

i can't even get the wireless network driver working lol. it is annoying. and now i have to hold alt upon boot or refit doesn't recognize my external because linux likes to call itself windows as well.

This topic can be closed now. Finally got ubuntu working and after a headache of installing network drivers, it is working. Doesn't show up in rEFIt though
