Ive installed the PPC version of Ubuntu 12.04 on a external firewire drive but the drive does not show up when I hold down alt-option at boot. The only thing that shows is my OSX internal drive.
Ive pretty much tried everything and just cant get it to recognize the FW drive as a boot option. My only guess is that the yaboot config is not correct but in order to make any changes to that I need to be logged on with Ubuntu on that drive?
Any help would be appreciated and I can give more info if asked.

Try Debian wheezy 7.1 ppc it worked for me,download the mini iso connect a ethernet cable and let debiam.com make most the install,
i also tryed ubuntu,lubuntu and could never get the desktop.
check this video this is my install of the Debian wheezy
and it's a great distro only could not get the wireless working but i think one could get it working if one find the wirless drivers
