The new MacBook Pro may be more expensive than a comparably equipped PC laptop (and there are reasons for it, which you may or may not be willing to pay for). However, if that's the way you, OP, are thinking then given your situation I think you are particularly misguided. The difference between the MacBook Pro and the comparably priced PC is in reality very small compared to the difference between your old PowerBook and the new MacBook Pro. So small, by comparison, that I could see how it would be a consideration, but I can't see how it would be a deal breaker.

::Waves:: Bye. :(. . . .:rolleyes:

Lol It's just funny to me because people choose to say "Oh I can get this for so much cheaper. . ." and then when it breaks/melt in 2 years with your 1 year warranty, You complain again.

In life you do have a choice. . . I guess this wasn't the best upgrade for you but hey I hope you enjoy your new Gateway computer! ::Thumbs up::

I know it won't last as long as my PB G4 (6 years!), but hopefully I'll be happy enough. I've waited long enough. Take care, all.

Looks like a very decent machine. I'm sure Windows 7 will take you a little while to get used to, but it's a very competent and stable OS. I'm sure there will be a couple things you will miss, like multi-touch, etc.

+1 on doing a clean install to get rid of any bloatware.

Why are some of you so nasty toward people who are not happy with Apple? They are not insulting you or your mother. Why take it personal and make a snotty comment at them as a person?

BTW I had a Compaq for 6 years before the screen died and I could have replaced it and kept chugging but wanted some new tech. Despite what you want to believe Apple is not the only brand that lasts more than a couple years.

The reliability arguement is so old and worn out. Wake up already.Apple is now Ranked 5th in Laptop reliability behind such brands as Asus and Sony.

Apple has been slacking off and riding on the cult of personality and the latest refresh just proves it even more. Apple doesn;t need to make any substational updates because they know they have enough people brainwashed into buying it no matter what

So should I have said "From my past experience. . .melt, with no reliable support"?

I'm speaking FACTS. . . it's so common on THIS FORUM people NAG and NAG and beg for new products to get released and then cry/make multiple threads about the SAME CRAP. If you're buying another computer do you honestly need to broadcast it?

People on here are extremely delusional and think everyone here "Defends Apple" (Which may be true) but it's just annoying to see the same crap "I'm switching to PC" GREAT!

Go start a topic on a Windows based forum and say "Returning to Windows" :)

Multi-touch trackpads are now available on most PC laptops (and netbooks). They may not be the same quality but they are multitouch.

Ahh, but where exactly is Gateway?

I'm not trying to bash anyone I just don't see the need to announce your departure because it's not the upgrade you wanted.

I'm not being nasty to him. He said he was leaving, so go ahead and leave. I don't understand these "goodbye, farewell" posts. This isn't a breakup, it's a web forum. Capitalism at it's best, vote with your wallet by all means. However, prepare to endure the consequences.

I used to be very involved in the OSS movement and we'd continuously have these people write dramatic exits as they went back to Windows. It gets a bit tiring. Enjoy OP.

itravis everything from your username to your signature shows you are a fanboy. Jumping the case of people who don't toe the party line is exactly why many people have a bad view of Mac users.

Nobody told you you can't buy something or can't love it so much you dress it up and sleep with it but for god's sake can we have our opinions without you trying to tell us we are wrong?

EXACTLY! +1

Aw man you caught me. . . I love Apple products. Shoot me.

I'm not reiterating my statement. Click the "X" or the red bubble if you don't like it.

Endure the consequences? This is exactly the kind of nonsense I am talking about. I do like using OSX and the track pad but my life is not going to become all depressing and horrible if I don't have a MBP.

Some of us are frustrated because we do not believe Apple is offering enough value for it's cost. We are not telling you that you are wrong because you are willing to pay anything for it so why the need to get personal when we don't want to?

Honestly, there's a part of me that wants to leave apple too, just because of the way apple users behave.

There are opportunity costs for every decision you make. The OP has justified any potential opportunity costs through the increased hardware specs and features offered by his new notebook. Good for him. If he didn't, he wouldn't have made the choice he did (assuming of course he's a rational consumer - a theory he has done nothing to discredit).

I have no hard feelings toward him, other than the fact that he made this post. Contrary to his title, nothing he has stated has forced him to switch to a PC other than his own microeconomic equilibrium. The fact that he uses the term "Ugh" to refer to his situation is indicative that he either realizes that there are consequences or has simply posted this in an attempt to troll. As he has refrained from inflammatory remarks, I'll assume the former - not that any of this is our business anyway.

Honestly, I think people should use exactly what they want and what fits them best.

I'm just confused by one thing. Why is a 15.6" only 768 pixels tall? I mean, everyone bitches that the 13" MB/MBP is 1280x800, but a 2" bigger screen with lower resolution is better?

Plus, I really wish I could understand the appeal of watching blu-ray on a notebook screen. I guess I'm just an old lady that way.
