Has anyone else noticed how Cook has basically been axing perfectly good features/effects that Jobs made which should have been preserved? Like on safari when web pages loaded you would get a blue effect covering the entire address bar until the web page loaded. Now its a blue (or any other color in Catalina) line, a little blue line which is so much less satisfying than the whole address bar going blue or some other color. Also the tabs in the new safari are just blocks whereas the tabs Jobs left behind actually looked like tabs like real tabs in actual physical files and folders. Each one was distinct from the other one, they didn't run into each other like they do now. Cook has very bad design sense compared to Jobs. I could go on and on. If my MacBook Air hard drive was larger I would partition it and run a Lion or Mountain Lion on it just so I could see how great things looked on that compared to today's "macOS (what was wrong with Mac OS?)"

Does anyone else miss these things from the past? Like even the iPhone's size is ridiculous these days, its too big. I don't want a display so big the phone doesn't fit in my hand. I have large hands but the iPhone 5 onward iPhones have been ridiculously huge. I'm thinking of buying an iPhone 4s and like running iOS 12 or 11 whatever the latest is that runs on it. And don't get me started on the iOS changes like the 2D dock (compared to 3D dock in iOS 5/6) and the star on iTunes Store and the new meaningless A on the App Store icon. I could go on and on. I'm really holding back. Just want to ask is there anyone else who thinks the new guy is just taking a dump on the old guy's work? I don't think simply adding "Pro" to every product is innovation. Jobs said Cook wasn't a product person and he clearly isn't.

I haven't even mentioned the ******ness of the changes in Mac OS like the icons are just too bright and gaudy not low key/easy on the eyes like the previous icons in 10.7/10.8. The launchpad icon was so beautiful with the metallic finish on it now it looks just like grey plastic, 2d and nothing special. The bezels are gone from the safari icon and so is the North south east west, the dock is 2D which sucks so I got cDock which allows you to make the dock 2d again. its good but not as good as the 3d dock Jobs made still better than the default 2d dock. Its the little things that make a difference. I even miss the older more creative bulb in energy saver in settings. I know things have to change and evolve but not like this. This is making what was already there worse and devolution not evolution. Anyone else see what I see?

The traffic lights (close, minimize, maximize) used to be 3D and had some cool lighting effects making them look like actual traffic lights now its just plain, bland, pungent 2d colors which really suck.

I have gone from Catalina to High Sierra just because I like iTunes (didn't find it bloated), Cover Flow (in Finder), Dashboard (although its no longer being supported by Apple so weather widgets don't work). If anyone has noticed the internet radio stations that were categorized by genre were removed at some point by "the genius who took Apple to the next level" which also sucks because it was really good radio stations. Even cover flow in iTunes was removed which again is a hugely bad thing for me and others who liked that sort of thing. The iPads do we really need so many iPads? Isn't one iPad enough. Just keep making it lighter/better instead of releasing minis that are too small and Pros that are too heavy. The home buttons on the new iPads aren't curved to fit the user's thumb/fingers like the older one was (pic attached).

The MacBook Pro used to come in three versions 13", 15" and 17" with option of glossy or anti glare screen. That was sensible! Now, you only get the glossy screen option and just two sizes 13" and 16". It just doesn't make as much sense as it used to. Who needs these glossy displays? Give the damn customer options.

Cook's kooky cookery is gross and ugly.

So...you joined MR in October and your great contribution is a rant over the CEO of Apple? Tim Cook does NOT decide on minute details that you are complaining about. This is APPLE not him. Ranting about it won't change anything. If you don't like it, you will just have to choose another vendor. Your/our dislike will not change anything.

Apple does not exist to please every customer's exact needs. If you don't like their products then buy from someone else.

Apple is a business like any other. They make decisions based on consumer feedback, product analysis and sometimes misguided ideas from Jonny. I've been using Apple products almost exclusively for nearly two decades. There is no other computer/phone/tablet maker that I would switch to at this point. Believe, I've tried that before...

Newsflash: any company who does not exist to please their customers will not survive for long. Apple has always tried to please their customers. But which customers they choose to please has changed over the years. Apple believes in the feedback mechanism. They sometimes prefer to toot their own horn and their hubris gets in their way, but "if you don't like their products then buy from someone else" is certainly not their philosophy. If you don't like something, leave feedback.

Thank you for your help, I've amended my reply.

Although aesthetic and user friendly is something rather personal, I do share your feeling that, Apple is losing the characters it was born with. I still remember the time I could enlarge the icon of pages to 512, which is a letter and an ink well, to read what is written in the letter. I also dreamed about having official theme support on Mac being a candybar user for years... those are the things deeply personal to me. Nowadays, I am just waiting for my mbp to break down and buy another PC. But my mbp holds on so well after 6 yrs. Absolutely nothing is wrong except the OS itself evolving into something strange. Most recently, I found music can not be controlled by remote in my iPhone. I already have storage big enough on my iPhone and iPad to store the complete iTunes library. But I know there are people who simply can not because of their hundreds gigs of library. Meanwhile, I also miss the flexibility because of my Bluetooth speakers pairing.
Apple will not change back in the near future. I know. But it doesn’t mean people can not be nostalgic. To replies like “if you do not like, you can go somewhere else”, I would say the same.

There is no other alternative to Apple that works because all the other companies follow Apple blindly. When Apple does something they copy it. The whole point is that Cook's leadership is questionable because he's taking the product quality downwards/backwards compared to what Steve Jobs used to do. But revenues are rising, sales are rising, stocks are doing good. Most people don't seem to notice the changes or mind them but I don't know, the way cool features are being axed I don't know what will be left of Apple in the future. Because they, under Cook's leadership are just getting rid of stuff Jobs did that should have been preserved or upgraded not just thrown under the bus. So there's the choice of botched up apple or crap from other companies who just copy Apple. Both bad choices imo. Its not that Apple is trash its just that they're trashing it and it will become crappier and crappier if they keep up this trend which they probably will. and who else would you question other than the CEO. Cook is Scully II.

Well, what can you say... Old Apple is definitely dead but I'd say they're still above competition, way less than they used to be, but still have that small edge. But that small edge to me ain't worth it. And even that small edge contracts little by little every year. Eventually I realised it doesn't matter, sure there were better times for tech, some beautiful work Apple has done in the past which today doesn't exist but it doesn't matter that much it's just tech, back to practicality - i guess - which is Windows. Today's Apple just poses creativity, in reality there's nothing there that you can't get elsewhere.
