Ugh why cant i get some of my videos in iphoto to imovie ?

Some videos show up in imovie . But some dont for some reason . The ones i want , i cant get it into imovie for some reason . Anyone know why ?

The video files must be one of the following formats: MPEG-4, DV, or .mov. Any of those formats, can be imported into iMovie or will appear in the iMovie Events Library in the iPhoto Videos section.

how do i get them in MPEG-4, DV, or .mov. formats ?
