In iOS 10 I have my first page empty and I've emptied my dock so I can enjoy the wallpaper I use

In iOS 11 I've removed apps from the favourites section of the dock but it always retains the most recently used apps - I can temporarily remove the latest used by if I open a new app the dock is populated once more

I'd love the option to hide the dock from the main screen and pull it up in the same way as you can inside an app or failing that it would be nice to have a setting where you can choose to stop the most recent apps being added to the dock

one of the reasons i used to jailbreak my iphones, but, in the real world, apple does not let us do much... (i'd love to hide the dock, just have icons there).

You can remove the recently used apps from the dock by going to Settngs > Multitasking and unchecking the “Show Recents” option.
